I have to say I am likewise puzzled by the backlash here because people don't read the phrase "A Real American Hero" anywhere in the press release. So what? Would soldiers call themselves "Real American Heroes?" I doubt it. I for one don't care if the words "A Real American Hero" are anywhere near the movie and I sure as hell hope the SONG that goes with that title isn't either. This won't be a cartoon. It shouldn't be a cartoon. So it shouldn't be overly influenced by a cartoon.

And I might have left Claymore and Keel Haul out. But I guess your billet defined your level of authority on the Joe team, huh? Perception is king.

I was saying the more informed about GIJOE would say Hawk. However, all the kids who watched the cartoon, which they are banking on as a built in audience, think Duke is the leader.
When the Transformer movie was being made all I heard from the Hollywood types was that it was based a cheesy cartoon. It was an excuse for them, I think. They completely ignored the in depth comics. In no way am I trying to dispute the facts but rather look at the popular perception of GIJOE.

If they want the movie to be great they gotta get Larry Hama in the mix. Having the Joes working out the Pit is a good start. I'm remaining optimistic for now. I went into Transformers with an open mind and came away very impressed.

Hasbro:
"Can we offend half the world audience with the American Military portrayed as unabashed heroes?" No Way! "Can we offend the other half of the world that knows the U.N. to be a corrupt, incompetent joke by putting GIJoe under the U.N. in the big movie?" No problem! I will not pay to see this movie or support it in any way. Transformers earned over 700 million dollars by staying true to the original concepts and characters while giving them a cosmetic upgrade for a new generation. So why do they think by changing everything that made GIJoe what it was is a good idea?? MORONS. I smell a box office turkey and a ruined franchise. Last edited by DESTRO; 10-31-2007 at 06:00 PM.. |

not to mention the dialogue in the cartoon was superior than any word of dialogue Hama ever wrote in the comic -- ever.

the better episodes of the cartoon are far better than than the better issues of the comic IMO,

and I don't want to see Larry Hama anywhere near the movie. Larry Hama, for as great as he wrote the filecards, did horribly with story exposition and turned the storyline into days of our lives.

However, in order to give the movie more of an adult flavor (to avoid the kiddie label), which source should they reference? BTW Gun, have you ever read GIJoe Special Missions? Which issues? -PJ Last edited by Obiwanjacoby; 10-31-2007 at 05:39 PM.. |
