Well with that in mind I actually like the interview he gave. He was cocky, and called us nerds. That = Rad in my book.

I'm going to try really hard not to form an opinion of this movie until I see it...
I don't mind the power suits, I mean we had a neon green guy named Sci-fi. And for a movie, I really don't think it would transfer well if every single character had their 1980's action figure look. Seriously, could you imagine seeing Shipwreck running along side Gung-ho, Spirit and Hardtop. It'd look like the friggin Village people with guns. I love my ARAH toys, don't get me wrong on that, but I agree with some of the other guys, any GI Joe movie is better than the movie cartoon, and it's one more movie than we've had in 25 years. Bring it on, Marlon Wayans and all. |

Hahaha if all the promotion for the movie ends up having comments like that I could see message board posts like "With the way they're talking about us fans I'll probably only see the movie 3 times"

He references the liquid armor "like barbarella". Has anyone done any looking to see what her armor looks like.
BTW, for those of you worrying about G.I.Joe and cleavage not belonging, you might want to avoid checking out Barbarella as it will most definately offend you and probably give you the wrong idea. The G.I. Joe and cleavage discussion just seems to be people who think objectification of the female anatomy is a little misognystic.

I think you are really missing the point here. Everybody likes pretty women, that is not the point. To me, there is only one issue in this discussion: is this movie gonna be Catwoman or X-Men? (Being that X-Men = nice women, great movie; Catwoman = nice women, two hours of torture)
This interview sounds a lot like the "story? we have Halle Barry in tights and a whip, for crying out loud! what else do you want?" declarations that I read before Catwoman. G.I.Joe is not like Transformers. I mean, robots, cars and Megan Fox, what can go wrong? So, having waited for this movie for the better part of my life, I would prefer having a good story than a David Hasselhof's Platoon. At least I would buy the DVD. I think this movie is gonna suck. Hard. I can see the official plot of the movie, in my head, from what I know so far: "The quarter-back Duke leaves high school sweetheart Baroness at the altar. Incapable of dealing with the pain, she starts blowing things up. Duke gets conforted by his goofy friend Ripcord, which is always a guarantee of a good laugh, and they join the army. There, they meet the intrepidous gen. Hawk, who is oblivious to the sexual harassment of the former model Cover-Girl. Meanwhile, the Cobra rises (if you know what I mean), and a bunch of ninja dudes jump and kick a lot". I really, really hope I'm mistaken. Don't get me wrong, of course I'm gonna watch it, out of morbid curiosity. And I know I'll feel bad about it. Like when you slow down your car to see an accident. |

I think some of the complaints are valid, and it's only natural for people to be protective of a property they love, but I also think a lot of stuff is being overlooked. Transformers played to the fans for sure, but it's robots. There's your hook for average citizen, whereas with Joe it's not as simple. One thing I keep reminding myself of is that there are a lot of actors in this who are well off careerwise and don't NEED to do this movie, so there must be something that drew them to it. Also, no matter how well it has ben done in the comics and appears to be in Resolute, this whole story came from an action figure line, so the people that freaked about Joseph Gordon Levitt calling his role a living action figure have to remember that this is how he remembers it from his childhood, that's where the Cobra Commander character came from, it's not meant disrespectfully. If he thought it was stupid he wouldn't be doing it.
With that being said, Marlon Wayans....if they felt they neded comic relief they could have found a character from Joe known as a joker and used them without screwing the character of Ripcord up, and if he's in it because he's a black man, that's even dumber. The gentleman playing Heavy Duty is black, and I'd have loved to see someone turn in a great performance as Stalker (Omar Epps would be my choice. He's not a spot on resemblance but I think he could play the former gangster turned military officer well, which is a hard thing to sell well I would think.) But I also look at it as he was good in Requiem for a Dream, and at least it's not a rapper, who are the only people who can play black roles in hollywood it seems these days. The only thing I've heard I didn't like at all was they were changing Cobra Commander's mask, but also it isn't my movie. If I were making it I would do a lot of things differently, but that's my version of G. I. Joe, and this is someone else's. I just hope it's enjoyable and that it can be a success enough to see another one, and we can get more of the things we would like to see. |
