Well at least we won't have to ruin the cardart when we open the single carded joes in the future, and it will make it easier for those Damn re-packers, to commit their dastardly deeds.

Uhmmm.. You guys don't seem to know that PVC (a plastic that's more contaminating for several reasons) is not the only plastic one can use to make bubbles; hell, they make cellophane from plantmaterials. nothing here says the packaging style is going to change, just the materials used. I hadn't even noticed until now, and I've been collecting for years.

Maybe the new bubbles will be made out of something that degrades over time. The bubbles will turn to dust in 10 years. No more MOC collecting.

Why would they???? most biodegradable materials are made to react with certain biological agents.

Let me guess; They are going to make toys out of paper cutouts next.
All your favorite Joes will come on a poster board and you cut them out. Wow thats the golden age of figures. Seriously tho, I hope that means we're gonna get some cool art on packaging. |

Well, it's always nice to know a company I spend a good bit of money on every year is working to be more eco-conscious.
I'd imagine we'll still get blister cards...just that the blisters will be made of something else. I can't possibly imagine that Hasbro would move entirely away from the "see the toy in the package" model for action figures. Though I suppose you could market them in an enclosed box with a window on the front to see the figure/accessories inside. Interestingly enough they could potentially use that model to decrease the overall size of packaging...not only lowering the environmental footprint, but allowing retailers to get more of them on-shelves (something retailers would dearly love, I'd imagine). Basically just imagine a 4-sided box with a j-hook tab on top. Put the character art on one side, leave just enough room for the filecard on the back, and show off a few of the other characters in the assortment on the other side, with the window on the front. Dunno how complicated it would be compared to what they have now, though. Last edited by Jmacq1; 12-08-2011 at 03:51 PM.. |

The materials are derived from corn from the US. As far as "no more MOC after 10+ years", unless you're storing your figs out in the Amazon jungle I think you can breath easy about the material "turning to dust" or "melting". This really is a good thing because it's one less industry that relies on disposable packaging made from fossil fuels. /also, damn hippies! |

Duh, I should have thought about that. They are making chip bags that are biodegradable right now and clear biodegradable cups for soft drinks and stuff as well.

I guess time will tell with the new bubble plastic formulation. |
