I love how everyone who hasn't read the series up to now, has an opinion on the matter. There is no room to grow with the way some of you are thinking. IDW's take on the Joes, is fresh and in my opinion a great way to explain the multiple facets/looks of Cobra Commander. It is a position, not just a name...so it leaves room to have a used car salesman, or a scientist from a lost world, or a scientist who snaps and drags his sister in the fracas. This time, it is a war, death hungry despot (from what we've seen in the comics he isn't at all nice or goofy). For years Cobra Commander has been seen a fool, a bumbling moron...which doesn't bode well for the Joes. Yes, they are a highly trained military force...but going against a moron? kinda over kill if you ask me. GI Joe now needs to step up the game...and since their ranks have been dwindled, and now funding possibly being cut...they are going to have their work cut out for them.
I love how they tied in Zartan and Storm Shadow under his control. Baroness and Destro are also both at his mercy, which would explain why a man of such wealth and power would have to stick around and work for the new Commander. The Baroness storyline, hopefully will pan out as well. Everyone is entitled for their own opinions...but you guys have to keep an open mind that this world must expand. Grow. This isn't your father's cartoon or comics. This is a bold new world, where we can get to know characters on a different level. So complain and grumble all you want...for every complaint there are 40 people who love the new direction IDW and Hasbro is taking. I am but one of them. ok even though it was spoiled for me I really have been enjoying the IDW run. I still prefer Devil's Due run with but that margin is shrinking.
I know its not for everyone but if you are into comics I would definitely recommend giving these a try. Start from the beginning though and probably read the cobra series first. If you want really detailed art though move along. Devils Due kind of killed my love for comic books with America's Elite but from the good stuff I'm reading about IDW I'm thinking I might have to pick up the trades to catch up with the story. I guess I could do digital comics but my Kindle Fire seems a bit small for reading comic books. |

Oh yeah, I forgot all about that. I will have to look it up but that was during the Serpentor cult story line right?

I regard ARAH as canon, a least up to around the part when they brought in the Transformers, that was too strange. That being said, the new IDW series is really different and really good. It isn't really there to technically replace ARAH so much as offer an alternative storyline. ARAH is still going strong under Hama, but IMO it's not up there with its golden years from back in the day. I'd love to see the return of Special Missions, which really shows off Hama at his best.

Oh, well... dammit... I walk in here for the first time in a while and I get fanboy tears all over my new boots. There must be a foot of this salty sob-snot on the floor.
A- Love the new Joe. Honestly, I am sick of titty-baby fanboys pretending that there was some sort of concrete masterpiece in the old Joe. Guess what, guys? The 'REAL' GI Joe comics you all piss and whine about? It peddled action figures more than anything else. Its crowning achievement was shoehorning that garbage into the comic and still working. B- Love the body count. This is not Star Trek. A soldier's death is a serious thing- even if he's fictional. It should impact the reader as it does his peers. No platoon ever looked back and said "Yeah, they got ol' redshirt Bob that no one ever listened to or cared about!" No. REAL characters can die, just like the movies. Deal with it, it happens all the time. Or are you so obsessed that someone killed your favorite toy? And quit with the whole 'IT ARE A GIMMICK' crap. An ENTIRE comic of GI Joe ARAH was about a ton of Joes being shot to hell and killed. Can't. Friggin'. Wait. If you don't like this new series, by all means- there is ARAH set aside just for you. Otherwise, quit your crying and let other people enjoy this. If you have a -legit- reason you don't like it, cool. But don't spew bullshit about a series that never existed. |
