Hopefully the Joe team kicks it up a notch as so far they aren't coming across as all that elite or tough. They've been Cobra's punching bags since the very beginning and haven't made many good decisions.

Wait, so ARAH, plus three Joe titles. all intersecting, PLUS the Cobra Command title, all monthly? And an annual and reprints?
TOO MUCH. Just the monthly stuff is $20 a month, and most folks (myself included, I'm sad to say) don't think Dixon is even doing it right. There are an awful lot of great 2.99 books on the comic market to be paying 3.99 for five mediocre Joe books, and if they're all intertwined, then it's easier to drop them all then to drop one. Just sayin'... |

It's nice having 4 books every month, but the quality has been a little uneven lately and I'd like to see more Joes and Cobras get a share of the screentime.
The CCW has been interesting so far, but I was hoping they would scale back to one main book to continue the main series, and perhaps bring back Special Missions on a regular basis. I'd really like to see a book that focuses on the Cobra rank and file. It could focus on a different character or troop type each time, almost like a combination between an origins style book and a "Cobra Special Missions" type book. One month we're walking in the shoes of some anonymous Blueshirt, the next month we're on a wilderness training with the Range Vipers, and the month after that we could be seeing what life is like for a Siegie family, or getting a sense of the unit rivalry between particular unit types. A book like this could also be woven into the main book. Imagine if in the main book a Joe team gets into a firefight with some Vipers - this could be a brief 2 page fight that isn't even the main theme of the particuar issue. The next week we get a story focusing on that Viper Squad or perhaps just one of the Vipers. I feel like the books have become too politicky - there's too much focus on the drama inside Cobra HIgh Command and among the 10 main Joe characters. I want to get my boots muddy on the ground more often, from the POVs of both Joes and Cobra grunts. Having said that, this new series will be interesting. I hope a large scale invasion of some new country will involve a fair amount of conventional action, perhaps we'll get to see more military hardware in use? The original Cobra Island Civil War in tehMarvel series was brilliant, as was the war in Benzheen. So I'm hoping this could be more of the same. |
