retailers stock their own shelves so what does that have to do with Hasbro? you act as if Hasbro simply doesn't solicit the retailers for sales. not to mention as a retailers it is much easier to simply keep a stock of items that probably only cost them $1 like the Corps because their is hardly any risk.
there are multiple factors you have to consider if you want to make such requests, but even the obvious ones you seem to want to ignore. if you want to ask about restocks, that should be directed at the retailers. |

We won't know how well GI Joe would sell with 2 different lines because we have never had it. Not to mention that it's hard to gauge how well they sell when most stores seem to stock so randomly. I don't collect Marvel Universe anymore but when I did, a new wave would hit and fill the pegs. Then they sell thru tons of product yet always have at least a couple new figures on the pegs. With Joe it's so random. I've never seen a stored skip a wave of MU (sorry I know nothing of Star Wars so I can't compare them) but I have only seen 30th once and have yet to see Renegades. But Wal Mart says Joe doesn't sell so they won't carry them. But when they do carry them they don't stock the new stuff anyways. I think Joe could be successful with 2 lines but I highly doubt it will ever happen.
Add that to the fact that Corps are always stocked and have plenty of full pegs. It's tough to find any Joes at all so that hurts them. But even when Joes are on the pegs Corps figures are so much cheaper anyways.

GI Joe has never gotten two concurrent "brandings" is because it has NEVER sold ONE branding well enough to warrant it. Objectively, if a toyline isn't doing especially fantastic sales (or doing "just well enough" with one), there is NOT a pressing reason to think another will do better. Even Transformers didn't get two concurrent "kid-centric" product lines with new toolings until 2008 when the movie drove a massive expansion of the brand. Just because collectors raise a fuss about wanting a different kind of product than what hasbro is pushing does NOT mean that there is enough interest to support a mass market retail push. Quote:

And I've long heard rumors Lanard gives Walmart preferential treatment (more than they usually get anyway), which likely explains the continued support of the brand at Walmart stores.

Maybe 1 or 2 figures from each of these unsung eras, can form a final wave, complete with design elements retained from each "unsung Joes" unique era. All the while, still remain under the 50th line's overall "full body" art format. Almost like POC Cobra Commander's variant card; those "unsung Joes" cards can still have its own look + vibe. Like the POC Cobra Cmdr card (posed in the same POC format of "close-up / torso-up" portrait shots) "full body" shots can also be universally used throughout that final wave of "unsung Joes." Example, a M.E. figure of Extreme: Iron Klaw (full-body art + unique "Extreme" design elements in the back). Another example, 1 figure from Super Joe: Commander w/ Power Vest (full-body art + the unique "Super Joe" design elements in the back), etc. Personally, I do hope they make just one Super Joe in M.E. format for the 50th. He's one of thee most unsung of Joes. I really dig the Super Joe Commander w/ Power Vest. That unsung Joe was indeed my very 1st G.I.Joe the parents bought at a military P/X. He's easy to make = Torpedo's body + bearded Joe Colton's head. The only new piece needed is a small accessory = the "Power Vest." The 50th can even re-use that "Power Vest" twice, as a chase variant, of thee very ultra-rare African American variant; decked out in his loud yellow retro 70s jumpsuit... But the real reason we get crappy answers is because a majority of collectors ask crappy questions which largely boil down to: when are you making "insert favorite Joe item"? or "Will you still be making these figures you've said multiple times you WILL release?" or "Distribution sucks! Fix it!"

collectors are going to buy the new product for the most part no matter what, and the brand has shown that collectors cannot make a Joe line successful at retail on their own. so the collector line automatically isn't going to be very successful without additional consumers. but if those consumers purchase the non-collector line and don't add to the collector line, how will that occur? the collector line needs more consumers to be successful, not top split sales with another line. not to mention that if additional consumers purchase the collector line instead of the non collector line in a ratio that doesn't significantly increase the collector line to be very successful, but detracts from the success of the non-collector line, now both aren't successful. it is called cannibalization of sales. fact is if one line can't succeed it obviously doesn't have the sales to carry two. for G.I. Joe to be able to sustain two lines it needs to grow the first line. there simply aren't enough Joe consumers on the market to sustain two lines if they can't sustain one. this is very basic stuff here. that's because Corps cost so little that there is hardly any risk if they have a low sell through. Last edited by gunslingercbr; 10-03-2011 at 03:58 PM.. |
