TNI: The Kwinn figure which was shown at Joecon was absent at SDCC. When asked it was said Kwinn had not been canceled but it had not been determined which wave the figure would show up in. Has there been any change on Kwinn’s status as to when we might see it on shelves? Hasbro: We're still hoping for an early 2012 release of the Kwinn figure. TNI: It has been said that Hasbro will be at NYCC this year in full force. Will there be a GIJoe presence at this years convention and are there any exclusives planned? Hasbro: We are still determining which Hasbro brands will be included in NYCC. We will let you know either way once we know for sure! If we are there, we will not have an exclusive this year. TNI: It was recently announced the new Data Viper figure which was shown at Joecon this year has been canceled. Is it possible we might see this figure released through means other than mass-retail such as the new figure subscription service coming to the Collector Club, or is the figure totally off the table? Hasbro: As of right now the figure is off the table. Hasbro Q&A Session With The G.I.Joe Brand Team - Kwinn, NYCC & Data Viper - GI Joe - ToyNewsI.com |

The Transformers site The Allspark sent some questions off and got their answers:
Hasbro GI Joe Q&A 2011 Round 5 - due Monday, October 3 - The Allspark Forums Of note they managed to rewrite my 12" question into something...less aggressive. And still gave pretty much a BS response to it.

Terrordrome:
Q1 — What were the factors in the design process to redesign the original Night-Viper into "Jungle Assault" Jungle-Viper (Ed. Note: Many felt that the Jungle-Viper was heavily inspired by the Night-Viper)? Did you change the name and design just so it would fit in better with the Pursuit of Cobra "Jungle Assault" theme? A1 — The Jungle Viper was never intended to be a redesign of the Night Viper. Originally, the Jungle Viper was envisioned to be a type of high-tech marksman wearing a Ghillie Suit which made it invisible. The theme was intended to be an "City Strike" mission. Once the design began to take shape in sculpting though, it become more celar that the long, fractal shapes of the JV's suit were best suited for the tropical foliage of a Jungle. The similarities in color came later in the design process, and they were done both as a nod to the original Night Viper, but also to "expand" the universe of the Cobra Army, to make the JV a fitting counterpart to a tactical team which might include both JV's and Night Vipers. Q2 — Any chance the Skystriker sticker sheets might be revised in an upcoming shipment... it would be nice to have some white in the stickers so you have "red, white, and blue" instead of "red, grey, and blue." It would also help the tail fin stickers show up better on the black plastic if they had some white highlights/outlines to them. The character specific stickers need some white highlights/outlines as well. So in summary any chance we can get a revised sticker sheet in the future with some white in it. A2 — We have no plans to release a revised sticker sheet at this time. Q3 — Seeing that 2012 is the actual 30th anniversary and NOT 2011, will we actually see the 30th anniversary run THROUGH 2012 (Ed. Note: Aside from the couple waves of figures that are expected in 2012.), or will it be pushed aside for the G.I.Joe 2 move line? Could we expect to see classic figures and vehicles mixed into the new movie line possibly? A3 — One of the reasons that we were so excited to start the 30th party early was because we knew that we would have limited time to capitalize on it before the movie. Right now the plan is to transition over to movie. Because there are some great classic characters in the movie, we hope that you might see some figures and vehicles that you'll recognize. G.I. Joe Forum Discussions at The Terror Drome » View topic - Aug/Sept 2011 Round 4 Hasbro G.I. Joe Q&A Answers & Round-Up 118th: Q) Would you consider putting extra heads in figure packaging that would be a nod to ARAH enthusiasts? Say you use the Duke name that the retailers want but you add something like a Foot Loose head to make the fans happy. The retailers still buy because of name recognition and the fans buy for the figure they desire. A) We often include extra heads with many of the figures (Snake Eyes, Dusty, Zartan, Jungle B.A.T. to name a few). We’ve also worked very hard to develop figures that the fans have been asking for like Sci-Fi and Techno-Viper. Typically we like to keep the heads related to the figure in pack to avoid confusion (except for Zartan). We don’t have plans to do heads that are for completely different figures. Q) Will you consider modernizing the GI Joe brand similar to the POC figures and the 12″ figure that have just come out? POC seemed to be liked by most fans and kids may not relate to a figure that was made in the 80′s. A modern look could possibly draw in the kids that eventually needs to pick up the line. A) Our focus, as you know already, is celebrating 30 years of G.I. JOE. Certainly part of that is Realistic Military, but it has manifested itself in the form of 12″ figures. Although you’ll see smatterings of cues from Real Military in the 3 3/4″ line, there are no plans in the immediate future to release a line dedicated solely to military realism (although, admittedly, it would be very fun to design!) Q) What is the final word on the Data Viper? At SDCC we were told it was canceled and other outlets have said it will come in some form. A) This figure has been cancelled for the immediate future. http://www.fighting118th.com/2011/09...ugust-edition/ Last edited by MAJOR BLOOD; 09-02-2011 at 02:08 PM.. |

Disappointing answers overall so far. Of the ones they actually answered.
That said, just because the tooling for the original Night Raven no longer exists does not take it off the table. Two years ago that's what they told us about the Sky Striker. If there's enough demand, they'll tool up a new one like they did for the Water Moccasin, Skyhawk, Vamp and Sky Striker. The complete cancellation of Data Viper, and the already announced limitation of the 30th are somewhat unfortunate though (if expected). |

Data-Viper on the table.
Data-Viper off the table. Data-Viper climbing back up to the table... Data-Viper off the table. Dearest Hasbro, It is not mere coincidence that Data-Viper has come up so many times in these Q+A's. PLEASE try to get Data-Viper to us. THANK YOU.

True, but I did like the statement of classic characters in the movie. I just want to believe with the positive fan reaction to early POC that Hasbro will do what it can to make the movie characters fit in with those figures as much as possible.

Classic characters could simply refer to the character names used in the movies. Technically Hawk, Scarlett, Ripcord and Heavy Duty were "classic characters", but looked nothing like they used to. I would love to see classic-inspired designs in ROC2, but I suspect that is somewhat unnlikely. For example, Roadblock does not look like classic Roadblock (any version) |
