I make this mistake quite often myself. You actually have to click the hyperlink that is made up w/ the poster's text. Most forums I visit, this would just be a title, so I often forget to use that link. The main link (the one begging to be clicked) takes you to the beginning which is also useful in its own right.

For example, looking up my post history, you actually have two links per post:

Hasbro's G.I. JOE Q&A Round Three 2008 will take you to the beginning of the topic.

It makes sense why it's done this way, but pretty much opposite of every other forum's search function that I visit regularly. Perhaps instead of using a snippet of the post, the link simply read "Go to post."

...or maybe we're the only two that make this mistake!
