A southern redneck? Obviously going in a different direction there.

Admittedly I forgot who Cross Country was until I randomly popped in one of the 25th DVD Battle Pack DVDs the other day and saw him working on the Havoc. I think it's neat that a vehicle driver who showed up in the cartoon might show up but he definitely wasn't someone I remembered all that much.

Sad to admit, but I really liked the Havoc as a kid...so I played with Cross Country quite a bit and remember him from the cartoon. It'll be interesting to see if they even try to make him from the south, or just use the name and go with a new character type a la Ripcord.

That pretty much had absolutely nothing to do with the original Ripcord aside from the fact that Ripcord was an army paratrooper. For that part, it's pretty clear that the movie team was looking for a fitting GI Joe name for the part(Ripcord) in lieu of actually making a movie version based on the original Ripcord. So for all we know, Cross Country in the movie could be some Joe who moved across the country from base to base during childhood as an army brat, hence the name Cross Country. It's a stretch, but for characters that aren't the most recognizable, unlike Snake Eyes, Destro, et al, it seems like Hasbro/Paramount are willing to make that stretch. For example, if Metal Head were to show up in the movie he could be some machine gunner on the Joe team who listens to Metallica while in battle...rather than the Cobra bad ass who blew shit up at any given moment in the DiC cartoon. |

Me neither. It would be cool to see a new Havoc done right. Never had the original.
