I loved most of the RoC figures. I thought the impact armor looked cool and the figures were for the most part well-made (save for the Neo Vipers and Viper Commandos). I do agree that they looked bland/difficult to distinguish between on the shelves, and were not true to the "look" of the old-school Joe, but to be quite honest I don't know that a line full of OD greens, tans, and camouflage is going to look all that much less bland on-shelves.

Purely speculation on my part, but I'm betting that's exactly what we get. If the movie is more true to the "look" of Joe, then PoC and 30th anniversary concepts will fit right in, instead of requiring "modernized/futuristic/impact armor" looks.
I really do think the "movie line" for RoC 2 is going to be more along the lines of continuing what we already have, just with movie branding on the package and a few waves of movie-inspired figs. Kind of like how they handle some of their Marvel movie lines. Which is also why I think anything that might (emphasis on might) get "canceled" for the 30th Anniversary will just end up on movie-branded cards.

I do think that they will bump some of the 30th figs into the movie line as off screen characters. I actually kind of hope they do; while the wait will be longer- as I said in another thread- I rather have those cool figs actually available in retail then chase around looking for short-produced "filler" waves with lifeline and sci-fi. It will be like finding low-light or shadow tracker all over again.

They start production somewhere between August 1st and August 15th. I have family in the French Quarter so I heard they have 3 locations in Louisiana confirmed for filming. They told me that Channing Tatum was already being spotted several times now in the French Quarter. I seen Lee arrived a few days ago from China and Rock said he was leaving today on his Facebook page. I'm hoping to head down there next week. Pinch the tail and suck the head?

Hasbro has said that the movie line toys will be just that.
But, things change. I don't think everyone should just accept these 30th anniversary guys showing up in movie assortments as an automatic good thing. The entire first wave, and most, if not the entire second wave of movie toys will be scrictly movie based toys. The 30th guys, if included, would likely be pushed back to later waves. The problem with this is, there stand a good chance that brick and mortar over order the first wave of toys. Leading to a glut of movie toys on the pegs, and collectors complaining that stores are not re-stocking the newer waves. Since Joe Con the 30th has lost 2 guys. I have no doubt by Spring next year, there's going to be a couple more lost. What seems more likely to me is that whatever is left will be boxed as set and sold online, (or possibly sold at retail, though I doubt it) or as next year's SDCC exclusive, with some extra figures like Footloose, Cover Girl and Jinx added to the mix.

The Rock has stated he has arrived in NO for shooting this weekend. So start hunting and looking people!
As for JoeCon expect it to be anywhere from 2 weeks before or 2 weeks after the movie. That is what Hasbro wanted with TF this year and they (the Club) said that is what they were wanting for Joe. Michael

Well I was told by a friend that I used to work with at Hasbro that GI JOE as a brand is on life support right now. I have a feeling that this movie will either make or break GI JOE as a brand going forward. I hope they get this right. I did not care for most of the Roc offerings.

It was easy to tell GI Joe from Cobra back then because you expected Joes in mostly earth tones while Cobra was going for blues, blacks, purples, or reds. With movie Joes and movie Cobra all in black there wasn't clear distention between good guys and bad guys. Plus when all the good guys are in black Snake Eyes can't stand out as the good guy in black. Got my fingers crossed that the movie characters and the movie figures go for that wide range of colors instead of limiting themselves to a rather narrow pallet. Always nice to have a figure that stand out because of their color choices like Firefly being in grey camo. |
