Doesn't really matter what the writers or directors did or how Channing acted. He's all wrong for the character to begin with.
When I was watching Avatar & saw Stephen Lang the first thing I thought was "this guy is perfect for Duke! Looks just like him.". When I saw Channing Tatum as Duke the first thing I thought was "who is this fucking guy supposed to be???" That's not a good sign. |

Well, hopefully he took some acting lessons after the last movie and got past the course on how to act like a brick.

Wow, I guess ROC was the only movie the haters have seen of Tatum. ROC wasn't his best performance and yet the haters act as if it was his job to carry the movie. Not too mention, ROC was an intro to the GI Joe unit. It was not intended to show Duke as the leader he has always been in the comics and cartoons. With the sequel, we may see more of the GI Joe field commander role for Duke.

This is the greatest news ever. Now, only if they secure Marlon Wayans to help with consistency.
Little by little this movie is starting to look like it'll be just as bad the first—awesome news! They should’ve just apologized to Stephen Sommers and offered him his old job back. There’s no need for a new director at this point. |

I have been vocal about my dislike for ROC's presentation of Duke, but you are right. You can see a growth similar to the one you mention in Renegades. In the beginning of the series Duke was rather whiny and not very Duke - ish. Now as the series wraps up he is much more like Duke has traditionally be depicted.
I will always make the argument for Tatum and Wayans that they were ok in their roles given how the roles were written. Without bashing on ROC, cause I still enjoyed it; as the saying goes, "can't polish a turd". Tatum and Wayans are fine actors in a poorly written and executed movie. |

I agree that Tatum and Waynes are great actors. I love Waynes, i think hes hilarious and I love all his movies, except him in Gi Joe. Now Tatum I would preffer someone different as Duke, but I think he did pretty good, and he sorta looks like Duke, but i think it could have done without Waynes, he just doesn't seem like a Gi Joe to me, not to hate on either of them but eh, however I did like Tatum and Waynes as screen partners.

Count me as a hater. I don't care. Tatum is no Duke. He's not right for the part. Hell Daniel Craig would be a better Duke. Jeremy Renner comes to mind as well.

Count me in as a hater as well. Tatum is no Duke, that much is clear. Why not just cast Eminem as Captain America? |
