Full of fail. I hate to see these, knowing how much better the same product was just 11 years ago. Sure they didn't come with protective body armor, but at least the uniforms were authentic looking and the camouflage pattern was the same as what was used on Soldiers at the time.
Now they're wearing crap that 11"+ figures from The Corps! would be embarrassed to be seen in. |

I don't collect 12"ers, so i'm not sure about these.
Personally, i don't like them. But i'd love to see the full artwork, looks very cool. Although the commando artwork looks very similar to PoC Hawk...

Sure I think they could have had more gear like some body armor. However I think it's important to have some price point figs like these for the masses. You can't play with 100 dollar figures. If you want that detail then they license out to sideshow. There are 2 markets.

Hasbro does have body armour. I'd settle for plastic to keep the price down. I think they can still keep it under $40 with armour, harnesses, and kit. These figures look incomplete. It's 2011 not 1999. It's not a total loss, hasbro could have screwed you with molded shirts. Are you taking notes Hasbro because I have far harsher things to say. |

Which one do you think a parent is going to buy 90% of the time? And I hear this all the time - "Well little Jimmy, you can buy one of these guys or get two of these guys." Clearly the brand manager for the reintroduction of 12 inch GI Joe to the market is not passionate nor educated about his/her market. GI Joe's presence at retail is at an all time low without actually being completely absent. (I could barely find them at TRU yesterday...stuck in a small corner.) This was a GOLDEN opportunity to blast a foothold back into the toy aisle. Sadly someone at Hasbro thought that in a time of Transformers, Green Lantern, Thor, Captain America, and fantasy video games that a bland G.I. JOE figure "celebrating the REAL AMERICAN HEROES who defend our freedom and safety every day with their dedicated service and selfless sacrifice," is going to sell itself right off the shelves. Let's NOT work inside the current trends, let's produce a few bland figures and hope a parent's sympathy get's us the sale. Congratulations Hasbro, you have pioneered the "pity sale" at mass retail. They should of created a sixth figure to the assortment, the beggar veteran gi joe and boxed him with a cardboard sign asking for money and the box he was packaged in could have been designed to look like a city overpass. This move should pretty much seal the fate of 12 inch GI Joe at retail for another 5-10 years. If the brand manager had any sense, he would have recalled/studied how 21st Century stole the market from them in the 90s and repeated the formula. Last edited by Chris L; 07-03-2011 at 11:13 AM.. |

Agree with everything above.
Imagine if Hasbro had cross promoted Joe with Transformers. How? 12 inch spec ops figures from the TF3 under a Joe banner! With superhero, sci-fi, and video games properties right now, hasbro goes for the bland patriotism will sell. Hasbro does this with Star Wars and TF. How could they not see this as great cross promotion. Kill 2 birds with one stone. Actually, hasbro DID make a beggar veteran………well sorta. It was a basic joe dressed in a green jacket and jeans. Could have been a homeless man. It was paired with a Vietnam Wall Memorial. Cool but the wrong market. I found them at a clearance store. I wish we had a reality show for the toy biz. With a Chef Ramsey type host who would rake these executives over the coals! I want to see them cry and squirm over the shit they produce. It's done everyday on the Foodnetwork! Yeah these figures should come with more equipment and body armor. The articulation looks fine to me though.

I'm happy that these figures don't seem to use the molded shirt bodies.
