Seriously, I am out if this happens. Tough enough to hunt the dumb things down. Then they gouge us at retail? They're not selling at the current price. Why hike it again? I mean, I was at Wal-Mart yesterday and they had tons of the figures. Nothing new, but they had tons. My guess si that any new waves that come in are snatched up while old stuff, and by old I mean a month or so, just collects dust. At these prices, I don't even buy Troop Builders anymore.

Hmmm. maybe we're all looking at this the wrong way. There is a proven point about pricing and merchandise - "Perception of Worth"
If you have two boxes of cookies on the table, no brand names on them. They look the same inside and out, but one is $1.99 and the other is $4.99. Which will most people buy if you ask them to buy the "better" cookie? Most people will assume that since it costs more, it must have better ingredients, or better production quality, or maybe it's packaged better, fresher, or just tastes better, the list goes on. So keeping this concept in mind, maybe Target and other retailers are actually hoping to increase demand for Joes! They're thinking, that since they cost more now, we know the quality must be better. Also, non-collectors will be drawn to them like the high priced cookies. Or they're just greedy.

$4.88 to $7.99 is completely ridiculous. I have been paying $6.63 at Walmart and $6.64 at Target for Star Wars figures for a long time now. Thankfully I happened across Wave 9 at Walmart and paid $6.84 x 6 + 8.1% = $44.36 rather than the $51.82 it would have been at Target.
If someone says to blame rising oil prices I say BS. I posted this back in April: http://www.hisstank.com/forum/showpo...&postcount=132 The link used to direct you to bbts.com where it was stated "Hasbro has raised the wholesale price of all single GI Joe figures by 25%..." So the question remains... If Hasbro is saying they have not increased their price but bbts.com is saying they have... who is telling the truth? Slag sucking saurians! |

The day of the price increase my Target got 2 cases of wave 7 in. Which is a pretty popular wave, I work next door to the Target and have been popping in on my lunch break just to check on the sales. Before the price increase That wave would've lasted a day maybe, with only the vipers clogging the pegs.
Since the price increase the only thing that has sold was 1 of the 2 Hiss Tank Drivers. I just popped by a different Target this evening and they had 2 whole cases of wave 8, the only thing that was missing was 1 roadblock, the rest were sitting there. My Walmart has had a hard time moving their joes since the increase to 6.84 the shelves have been full of Cobra Troopers, Air Troopers and Rock and Rolls. At these prices the shelves around here are clogged with old waves that won't sell because they've been too expensive. I will only army build what I can find at Kmart or Stop and Shop, it's too expensive anywhere else. Which is funny because those places are both usually more expensive than everywhere else. I don't get it.... |

I hit Target tonight and there was only 1 CC on the shelf at the new 7.99 price. That's it. There was however a lot of wave 7 on the shelves at Walmart at 6.84. So go figure.
I may soon stop collecting though. I simply cannot justify buying toys at this price point. |

Been thinking about this for awhile....perhaps with this line getting ready to go on "hiatus" they want to squeeze as much money out of us just in case the movie toys don't move.
I can almost see the movie toys being cheaper to start out with which will tick off us even more about a previous price increase. Anyway, if they start sitting on the shelf perhaps they will be lower, but the way I see it if you pass at the store the only way will be evilbay and those prices really suck. No more multiples for me and certainly no army building. |

If "oil" is the reason, then why, like so many others have said, haven't any of the other lines FROM HASBRO gone up really? or toys in general at WAL MART??
All b.s. because at the Stop & Shop supermarket's around here, today I saw all of wave 8 for $5.99/ea. You mean to tell me supermarket's are getting them for less? b.s., it's the individual retailer marking them up because they know there is a demand (ie. WAL MART, TARGET,etc.), period. Dont' let them lie to you. |
