I was wondering why they just don't do a reboot for a new G.I. Joe movie especially since some of the actors like Sienna Miller are already rumored to not return to the franchise?
They can keep Ray Park as Snake Eyes and Byung-hun Lee as Storm Shadow, but re-cast everyone else. Maybe the movie can be set in the early 80's but start with a flashback to the end of the Vietnam war showing the relationship between Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow and Stalker during the war. Something significant can happen there which disfigures Snake Eyes and sets up the feud between him and Storm Shadow. Something can also happen during that part which sets up the whole beginings of Cobra. I really liked the way which ROC started to set up the background of Destro, so I think something like that would be great for a new G.I. Joe movie as well. Just think of it like the begining of X-Men Origins: Wolverine. What do you think of this idea?

I will go see a re-boot Joe movie, especially if they try to erase the Rise of Crap wreckage.

I mean if they can do it with other franchises such as Batman and Spider-Man then why not G.I. Joe as well.

I thought most of the actors were locked into a multiple movie deal?
I thought ROC was good, if you accept it's not ARAH. Then again I went in with 0 expectation so maybe that helped. |

Reguardless what you two think, ROC was not a bad start. There fans of the movie and both kids and adults enjoyed it. The foundation has been set and a new fandom has been created. It would be better (and maybe cheaper) to tweek the existing mythos than to start from scratch. Think of it like this, the production companies are set to make money while the writers and directors are trying to tell a story. Look what happened to Spiderman. That franchise lasted 3 movies and would have had a 4th if it wasn't for the studio being greedy and allowing Sam Remi continue to be creative with his story of the webcrawler. Instead they rather scrap the franchise and alienate the fans by doing a reboot so soon after the last one ended. At least with Batman, a generation has passed by and the timing was right to start a new. Same with GI Joe, a fan base has been created, I don't think the studio does not want to loose that support in favor of a reboot. I can see the kids and fans say " what's this shit, that's not Duke, who is this guy and what happen to the stuff in the last movie?" So far, the studio said that they will hint back to the first movie while moving forward with a new script that can stand on its own. I think you all are jumping the gun here, let the creative team do thier thing, I am sure it will be another fun movie and a good time with family and friends.

as much as I am a fan of the old Joes, I think setting it in the 80's with flashbacks to vietnam are too old of ideas and won't relate to today's kids. And that's who the movie is for. I am all for a reboot but just take time and write a good movie. 80's Joe was a product of cold war america, and there is a generation now that was born and grew up after the Berlin Wall fell.

I learned the hard way back when they made that godawful MOTU movie that we'll never ever get a cartoon accurate live action movie. So I didn't expect a carbon copy of the ARAH cartoon like so many others did. I'm one of the few that loves ROC. And I'm sick to death of the constant bashing it gets.
Everybody also forgets that ROC was pre-Cobra. Cobra Commander didn't even take control until the very end of the movie. Now that Cobra has been established & is just getting started the sequel could kick major ass & feel more like the ARAH cartoon. (if they do it right, I'm not too happy about a new director taking over). Last edited by Steelgrave; 02-27-2011 at 03:20 AM.. |
