On the internet I saw the teaser trailer for Transformers. It had me wondering when the sequel for RoC is coming out or will it. Has Paramount and Hasbro decided to go in another direction with G.I. JOE or will the movie take place in the universe depicted film. If so has the screenplay been written? Has the movie been cast? Has a director been named? What exactly is going on with the film verison of JOE?

We were told that the script writers were writing as if the events of the first film had happened. Which would mean a sequel. Channing Tatum recently gave an interview in which he stated that the word he got was it was completely different from the first film. But that could've just meant it was a decent movie.
There is no director on board. The script is still in the writing stages. Sienna Miller likely won't be back. Guys like Tatum and Levitt have become big names and they might not want to be associated with the franchise after the negative press and reaction from the first film. Not to mention, they likely have got their work schedule planned out ahead of them for the next year. In 6 months, we will be at 2 years from Rise of Cobra. I sincerely doubt that there will be any filming this year. The longer the lull, the more likely it becomes a reboot.

So it doesn't matter how "big" they've become, unless they want to get sued by Paramount for breach of contract, they'll be back for a sequel unless it's Paramount that doesn't want them. Miller included. Even a full schedule won't stop it, because if Paramount exercises their contract it'll take priority (this is the reason Emily Blunt didn't get to play the Black Widow in Iron Man 2...another studio exercised their contract for her to be in "Gulliver's Travels" and she had to back out). Even the lack of director isn't as big an obstacle as it seems, since it's likely the studio will have its' hands all over this one to try to "right the ship." It'll probably be a studio "yes-man" sitting in the Director's chair with relatively little input as to the story, designs, or anything else. So the studio can basically do a lot of the preproduction work themselves and hand it off to someone to get it shot. This isn't a "Star Wars" film that requires a year of pre-production and a year and a half of post-production. It'll likely be smaller than the first in terms of FX and overall budget, so that'll cut down on post-production time as well. Last edited by Jmacq1; 02-10-2011 at 02:28 PM.. |

You are vastly underestimating how fast movies can get done once a studio sets their minds to it. They will almost certainly film this year for a 2012 release, as scheduled. Let's not forget how quickly RoC happened once the green light was given. There were already reports that Byung Hun-Lee was preparing to come to the US later this year for filming the sequel (Reportedly around June...which is MORE than enough time for Paramount to finalize a script and get a director in place). Even the lack of director isn't as big an obstacle as it seems, since it's likely the studio will have its' hands all over this one to try to "right the ship."
