The only way they get introduced to Sunbow is if an older fan shows it to them, which is "forcing" our Joe onto them.
Content of RoC aside, and it's not really valid to the arguement at hand, saying RoC distorts it for kids (or even more accurately, NEW FANS) isn't right. The only way it gets distorted for new fans is if older fans try to impose their Joe onto the new Joe. Did Transformers Animated distort Transformers for new fans? No. It became a seperate entity. We had G1 and new fans had T:A. Same with RoC and ARAH. And the same can/will be said when the new cartoon comes out (which is supposed to be geared towards kids).

Both universes can coexist, and they need to, because our 80's Joe isn't the future of the toy line... |

I thought this thread was going to be about how RoC was bad for kids, like too much violence on TV is bad for kids, or too many sweets would be considered bad for kids.
Boy was I wrong. |

That's the only way RoC can be considered bad for kids, if the content is too violent.

My friend's kid saw my collection. Needless to say, he thought they were awesome. The way he sees it, GI Joes are "military guys fighting bad guys". He watched ROC, liked it. He liked the Resolute movie I showed him. He liked the comics. He doesn't care.
So let's look at it this way- When I was a kid, I got some of the comic books and I didn't really get to watch the show all the time. So how did I see GI Joe? Military movies, and one of my older cousins was a Green Beret and my Grandfather was a veteran of WW2 and Korea- THAT was my GI Joe. Awesome commandos doing military stuff, the best of the best, taking out the enemy. We knew the Ghostbusters movie and cartoon was different when we were kids, and nobody cared that Peter was fugly in the movies and Ray was fat and childish in the cartoon as opposed to their other counterparts. We didn't give a shit. Kids these days have similar imaginations to ours. Most of them know that there are different interpretations of everything. Most of them will have their own interpretations, and some of them could involve Spider-Man and Ben 10 toys fighting alongside them. Here's the good: Kids liked ROC, and they buy the toys. The more toys they buy- the more little goodies we get every now and then. So, let the kids dig ROC. The comics have always outlasted the movies and cartoons, so just let it go. In 5 years, no one will give a damn about ROC unless they make successful sequels. |

Because sunbow is kid friendly we are forcing our joe on them? I disagree with your reasoning in this. Now may be the up coming cartoon will be more kid friendly than the movie was, but at this point sunbow is one of the only things in the joeverse appropriate for young viewers, making sure your kids watch things appropriate to their age is as forceful as any act of competent parenting. As for distorting, my only concern here is that so far(((may be the cartoon will be different))) RoC is very shallow and propped up by millions of dollars of CGI, the plot was subpar, there is no reasonable purpose to abandoning the rich history of gi joe, there is no reasonable purpose to butchering established characters instead of creating new characters. But as for me and the kids in my life, two things guide my decisions, first that sunbow is more age appropriate, and second that RoC is nearly bare of the traditional ethical principles found in older stuff in the joeverse. RoC just played the oneupsmanships game of being faster and flashier, more glitter less content, I hope the cartoon will not be like this. It is not one or the other, they can have both good content promoting a sound ethical center as well as special effects and framerates that could compete with a flashbang grenade. |

Let me rephrase, the content can be considerd to not be kid-friendly, that's accurate and Sunbow was definately more kid-friendly.
The topic at hand though is if the CANON (not the violence level, but the mythology) of RoC is bad for kids because it's different from ARAH/Sunbow or what is more accurately (for the sake of this arguement) called "Our Joe". So violence content aside, the original arguement is about mythology and the characters. Which is where the "forcing Our Joe" onto them comes in.
