From what i understand is that the armor is regularly flexible and when hit becomes hardend to withstand that particular cAliber for example a 9m strikes the suit it then hardens to withstand and disperce the impact force

In the Wikipedia article for reactive armor they talk about "Non-explosive and non-energetic reactive armor" which instead of having a shaped charge inbetween the metal plates has rubber. I think that is basically what they had in mind.

Given that the Reactive Armor was also referred to in interviews and such as "Liquid Armor" I'd say this is highly likely to be what it was derived from.
Or they were extrapolating from things that are currently being researched. Just like they did for the accelerator suits. Just like I'm pretty sure they mentioned doing in interviews (taking "real world" stuff that's experimental today and imagining what it might be like in the future). |

Actually, it would have been funny if it was explosive reactive impact armor. Then when, say Duke, gets shot, the reactive charge would inadvertently take out Ripcord in the process.

Hey, I'm pretty sure there are about a billion other threads here for debating the movie, including one specifically for hating on it. How about you use them and this thread can stay on-topic?

Reactive Armor in theory works by changing to match the amount of the attack by reading air pressure and heat the armor makes adjustments and is able to take everything of small arms fire up to a small warhead. I other words a solders wearing this type of armor could be a one man army.
