I am wondering now that the movie did nothing close to what they wanted. And it did nothing. $250+ million "worldwide". Where as Transformers 2 has done over $826+ million "worldwide". Will they revamp for the next film? Maybe "listen" to the fans? Because your biggest gross is the "overseas" numbers....If the film is good. They wanted to appeal to the the world with the UN (not American) tag. And character changes and the whole EVERYONE related crap. I know I will get tagged with another "flame war". Because it doesn't show this disaster in a positive light. I hope they go back to the drawing board. Because this is the only franchise that I ever wanted to be done on the big screen. The first shot was a big time failure. Here's to hoping for the next shot.

GI JOE is not a big enough property to warrant a relaunch or a re-imagining since that is what they would have to do.

I'd love it if they did and it was done right. But it's not fair to say that Joe isn't a big enough franchise to warrant a relaunch - the Punisher has had three different movies so far, the Hulk has had two, plus the original tv series, and I'd say that they're about at the same level.

Seriously though, if producers have thoughts about doing a movie based on the board game Battleship, Candy Land, Monopoly, and the Ouiji board then I don't see why GI-Joe wouldn't seem big enough to warrant a re-boot. However, I doubt we will see a re-boot after this first movie even if fans of GI-Joe wanted one. They seem to be already set down this path that ROC started. I think this current version of Joe will have to run it's course before considering a re-boot. |

Maybe - MAYBE - The Punisher but not the Hulk. |

G.I. Joe has been around since the mid-60's. A lot of people recognize the name G.I. Joe as the first action figure, even if they don't recognize the '80's ARAH brand. But this line is incredibly popular, and since it's reemergence in 2007 and with the release of the film, I'd say yes, mainstream america is as aware of G.I. Joe as they are with the Hulk, or even the A-Team. G.I. Joe is a multi-million dollar business, and has a ton of money for Hasbro since the inception of the line. Sure, there were lean years, but for the most part, all the Hulk ever did was sell comic books - typically not a money maker even in the best of times. So, I don't agree with you, but if you can cite some references that support your argument, then maybe I can understand better. If it's monetarily, then I disagree for certain. If it's just a popularity thing, then I still don't agree.

Ohhhh, fudge... At least you resisted the urge to put "haha" in this time.
If the film is as big as a 'disaster' as you say and did "nothing", then you ain't gettin' another one. Besides, comparing ROC to TF2?? Are you saying the TRANSFORMERS film was done "right" and they "listened to the fans" for that one? If you're suggesting that ROC bid badly because it was 'poor', then you must surely believe the reverse and reckon REVENGE OF THE FALLEN raked in that money because it was a brilliant film.

Seriously think of it this way. If they made a movie of Candy Land, Monopoly, etc and those films bombed.... If you were a Producer would you re-launch those failed movies, No!
Come on..... GI JOE is not a property like Batman or Superman that warrants or gets a lot more then their allotted 9 lives and or 15 minutes of fame. They can be re-launched, re-imagined and rebooted every generation and that's okay. The reality is that most fanboys hate the fact that GI JOE ARAH is no more and they want to blame the poor Domestic Box Office Performance on that. They think that relaunching GI JOE more entrenched in ARAH will make the difference but it wont. A great script, great director and excellent cast is all one needs. But going back to ARAH is impossible at this point. That history has been erased by ROC. The majority of people who went to see the movie are not fanboys and for them Scarlett is Ripcords girl and Ripcord is black. If they were to relaunch the film........can you imagine the outrage of changing the history of GI JOE. People talk about Continuity and canon but the reality is that film trumps all other medias, print, comics, books, etc. and that film then becomes the canon and continuity for Mainstream America. |
