As far as Toy Sales the stores already purchased them. As of right now they are a success for Hasbro but not really that successful for the stores that are siting on a plethora of supplies. Once the DVD hits and the holiday season kicks off these figures will go a lot faster and more consistently.
Anyway for all the Haters just so you know..... ROC is sitting at $297,215,931.00 million dollars. $48 million dollar profit without any DVD, toys, merchandise or marketing figures considered. |

There are three things everyone needs to admit:
1. RoC sucked as a film. It just wasn't good. Some -arguably many- people liked it overall, but as a film, it wasn't a good one. 2. RoC was a box-office success. Maybe not a raging success, maybe not the huge victory Transformers was, but it was nevertheless a success. 3. The RoC toyline has not, as of yet, proved to be a success, and it looks right now like it won't be. BUT, Christmas sales will be the true test of the line, not sales right now. So no one can make a true judgement call at this moment in time one way or the other. C'mon, agree with me. You know you want to.

I can agree to the following:
1. ROC was not as bad as you might claim it to be but with that said its not a great movie either. I have certainly seen worst but it still kinda sucked.....Sigh! 2. It was/ is a mild success as it has made some money but its still very disappointing numbers considering how long the property has been around and that they could have made such a bigger impact. 3. The toys are debatable..... as you are correct....... after the holiday season we can determine their true success. But for Hasbro it is a success for now but can ultimately be a failure for them in the near future. All those toys on the shelves were purchased already. So Hasbro got their money........they were paid and whenever you are paid its a success! Now for a long term plan for the company its not a good thing that those toys are not selling as the stores themselves are not moving which means no new orders coming in. |

It's all a matter of degree isn't it? I don't expect every film I see made to exactly the same standard and in many terms,Roc doesn't even come close in quality to what I consider the best films I've seen.
But within it's genre/bracket, I thought RISE OF COBRA delivered the goods and was a great movie. Nothing is going to chance that opinion of mine: For an action movie based on toy figures, I thought it was excellent and I loved it. And no, that's not using the "turn off your brain" excuse or "apologising" for the film. I just judge it for what it was, not what is 'should' or 'could' have been.

Well you lost me at the could have been. So are you saying that you would not have changed one thing? Not casting, director, CGI, wardrobe, score, plot, character........ not one thing?
I do not believe that at all! |

Now obviously my use of the term 'merits' runs the risk of invoking all manner of "there were none" responses but I'll take the chance. If I judged everything to the (sometimes rather lofty) standard of my own preconceptions, I doubt I'd ever enjoy anything in life. If I like what I watch/read/play/listen to then I consider it a success no matter how much I'would have done things differently' (Indeed, I'd never be so presumptuous as to assume 'my way' would have been any "better").

I simply mean I set aside any baggage and judged what I saw, not what I wanted to see. Leaving the cinema with 'regrets' about how the film would have been 'different' with another director, cast or whatever is pointless. I have to take the film as a stand alone entity and judge it on it's own merits accordingly.

My dissapointment in the movie doesn't really stem from preconceptions... it came solely from the fact that I couldn't enjoy it even as a brainless action movie. It had so many flaws, gaps, and such bad acting that I couldn't ignore them. However, my judgement that the movie wasn't good stems from the fact that it simply wasn't, when measured by any objective artistic standards. I can understand lots of people making the argument that they enjoyed it for one reason or another. But I can't understand anyone saying it was a good film. It just wasn't.
