Honestly.
This scene really still holds up, even better than ever, considering how bad disney and other companies have been with their recent output.... Rise of Cobra has this going for the GI Joe brand and I really think its timeless, in essence, see for yourself (again) : Look, its like playing in the backyard or the basement with GI Joe toys. Its simple and fun and that is all GI Joe has to be really! |

I don't love those accelerator suits, but I get what they were going for. I suppose I agree overall though, my son loved this part of the movie when we watched it. He likes the idea of powered armor or mech suits. Nice to see parts of this movie connected with a different generation (at least in my household).

Best scene of the movie wish the rest of the film was that good. Also the Delta Six Accelerator suits when really cool I wish they got incorporated in Joe media outside of that movie. That being said this scene does remind me of how terrible Snake Eyes looked in Rise of Cobra.

It reminds me of the part in "Arise, Serpentor, Arise" where G.I. Joe and Cobra are fighting in France over Napoleon's Tomb, especially since it takes place in France, also.
Some of the CGI hasn't aged well, though, especially the scene where Scarlett first appears riding the motorcycle.

Hated those suits because they just felt unnecessary. Snake-Eyes can run fast enough to catch the truck. Scarlett uses a motorcycle. And then we have bargain Iron Man suits when there are plenty of Joe vehicles that could be used for this pursuit.
Imagine if they bused out some RAMs or Silver Mirage or a JUMP pack? Also, did anyone else watch this and go "why doesn't Snake-Eyes just cut the tires with his swords? Or cut through the bottom? Or stab through the windshield?" And how on Earth did they even survive that crash, LOL. |

This is not the way.
IMO, of course.

I'm trying to think of a scene from Rise of Cobra that I liked.
I can't. But to be fair, there's only a couple of things I can remember from the movie, and this scene is one of them.

All 3 G.I. JOE movies are better than the last 3 Star Wars movies. Those were garbage!

I'm not immune to the simple pleasures of watching people hopping around like tree frogs and cars crashing into stuff, but whoo boy, that is some desperately incoherent action.
Note how often a character has to state precisely what is happening, why they are doing something, or what needs to be done. Otherwise, the viewer would have no way to construct a narrative out of all the idle spectacle. One has little sense at any given moment where the various parties are in relation to each other or their surroundings. Obstacles exist not to raise tension or introduce new complications, but only to be smashed through or dodged. The characters are all essentially interchangeable in function, ability, and perspective, so there's no real variation in the action, just relentless linear pursuit. Even the big realization--they're going to blow up the Eiffel Tower!--does nothing to raise the stakes as nothing really seems to matter in this world. It's just another random target in an artless demolition derby. There's some easy fun to be had in watching it, sure, but the overall effect is like eating a tub of buttercream frosting with a spatula.
