*sigh* I feel like I'm constantly repeating myself. For one thing all of the above films you're talking about are owned by the companies that are producing the films. Marvel Films, Warner Brothers, etc...
Not to mention the fact that Hulk has a long established fanbase with a best selling comic, an iconic character that the entire world knows, and the fact that the first film was NOT a failure. It didn't meet all expectations, but it still made some money. X-Men is a huge property with a monstrous success at the box office. How does that even apply here? While Batman films severely declined in quality as they moved forward, but the franchise was still hugely popular and a big money maker. You're not talking about films that FAILED. These were all financial successes. The two that are questionable successes are Daredevil and Fantastic Four, and, surprise, surprise, there doesn't seem to be much rush to "reboot" those two. G.I. Joe has struggled to maintain an identity for nearly it's entire existence. Is it campy? Is it serious military action? Do they wear fatigues or neon, or fire machine guns or lasers? Hasbro has attempted to move G.I. Joe to Hollywood for TWENTY years, and only barely was able to make it work due to the otherworldly performance of Transformers. If you think all of these pieces will come together again magically in seven years so we can get a reboot the "right" way, you're delusional, especially if the film is this epic "failure" you seem to want to portray it as. Justin I liked the movie and think it's great and will gladly buy the Blu Ray when it comes out and continue to buy the toys and contribute to Paramount and Hasbro making money. I can't wait for a continuation of this version of G.I. Joe. Also, all this arguing over budgets and money making are superfluous. Paramount already confirmed that a sequel was in the works after the opening weekend. |

Seriously guys? You hate the movie that much you'll make up lies? the worldwide total is $190,800,920 and the budget was 175,000,000 and to anyone that says that $89,612,376 is weak for a foreign box office then take into effect that 35 countries haven't even aired it yet. So shut up and stop bitching because if ROC does bad than you aren't getting any new toys for a while.

Did this movie open in China and India yet?
If it has than forget about making alot more money internationally. 35 medium to small(populations wise) countries aren't going to get you tens of millions of dollars. Transformers made it's millions mostly in China. |

Well, on rottentomatoes (where the percentage was caculated), it qualifies the film as "Rotten", so yeah, I'd say that's bad. I wouldn't congratulate my son if he brought home a 57% on a test and tell him "Good job son! You got half the answers right! Here's a cookie!" And besides, it's not a percentage of how many people liked, it's a percentage based on the grades it's been given.

didn't only 1 major actor keep their rights? was it Harrison Ford? I can't remember. Star Wars isn't really my thing, but I remember hearing about that.

Very true. The way I see it, if Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull, which lots of folks said was terrible, could earn over 800 million since release then I don't see why GI Joe would have a problem earning at least half of that. Last edited by jaxscorpio; 08-19-2009 at 12:34 PM.. |
