Yes it would, but since it is "uncertain" you can't really pass judgement on Paramounts views either way.

This is the deal breaker. Eveyone 'debating' in this thread is wasting their time without knowing all of the facts.

I'm really surprised no one has made a Flash animation site or something for the kicking of virtual puppies....
Anways... without knowing if Paramount has a % stake in the toys and how much of the production budget Hasbro ponied up, it's hard to define RoC's success or not. I think each company views the "success level" of RoC at different points.

I know the story was left wide open to a sequel but I also feel the story is great as a standalone story and probably should be left alone. You are left to ponder whether Christopher returns, whether Wikus ever gets changed back to a human, and if so, whether he is welcomed by the human race and/or his wife. I think having all of those be told for you would be less powerful than what you could come up with on your own. That's my opinion anyhow. I'd personally greenlight a G.I. Joe sequel using Mr. Jackson's CG outfit, everything was so clean in D9!!!

It was? No, not really, it just looked better because the entire film was shot through a lens filter to give it a "grainy" look. The CG was better integrated and better disguised in District 9, but the Prawns were still very clearly CG.

I guess my biggest gripe with ROC is its potential. It had the potential to be a really great movie..... rising above the mediocre popcorn-films.
Their CGI was on par with a bad SyFy film..... okay, maybe not that bad but damn close. D9 was so clean..... I swear I could not tell if some parts were CGI or not. If ROC would have budgeted itself better and used a more power house CGI team it would have been a huge step in getting the look down - forget about right - just looking real! And you can count on a squel no matter what to both films. |
