Streaming shows are heavily hyped but I'm not sure how many people really watch them. Article says 1.1 million households watched the Mandalorian season 2 finale on its debut day, and 3 million had watched any of it that season. Average people per household in the U.S. is 2.5, so that should mean 7.5 million watched any of it. Rise of Skywalker sold 57 million tickets...Force Awakens 111 million, and most other Star Wars movies in between those amounts. So Mandalorian viewership is just a fraction of what the movies pulled in. https://advanced-television.com/2020...ale-at-launch/ Numbers for Marvel say this... Loki finale...a US viewship of 1.9 million...To put it in perspective with its fellow Marvel TV shows, the finale of WandaVision pulling in 1.4 million US viewers, while Falcon and The Winter Soldier managed 1.7 million, both over the same five day initial period of their respective runs. https://movieweb.com/loki-season-one...iewing-record/ So the trend of these numbers is rising, but we're still not dealing with viewership that compares to what a feature film gets. Let alone when you add on how many more viewers films add in home viewing after the theatrical ticket sales are done.

And in the same interview he says, "I have this funny reaction about Cobra Commander, which is he kind of looks like he’s from the KKK." ... ""I probably was the first person who went, “Are you guys sure? Doesn’t he look a little, like from the KKK?” And everybody’s looking at me like, “How dare you say that.” Some of the Hasbro guys were horrified." Then he goes on to say he thinks he was responsible for Hasbro not putting out a hooded CC in the Classified line. So, not only did this guy ruin the movies, he's doing his best to ruin the toy line. Does this sound like a guy who "gets" G.I. Joe? Does it sound like a fanboy who grew up on the property? When you're a fanboy, or are somehow able to immerse yourself in the property and "get" it, you understand all the unique weirdness about it and don't question it. This guy sounds like that producer, Jon Peters, was it, who wanted to put a giant robot spider in "Superman Reborn" and who Kevin Smith ridicules as a Hollywood hack to this day. These types of producers are all over the industry. And the way Leonardo DiBuenaVista speaks, he just sounds like the same kind of clueless rambling idiot we have always known is out there in Hollywood ruining everything, who is desperately trying to sound like he deserves a paycheck. Then he goes on to talk down G.I. Joe vs. Transformers, and even claims Alien vs. Predator was a bad idea, something every fanboy in the world wanted to see. Based on this interview, I wouldn't hire this guy to clean my gutters. Quote:
Thanks for the interview. It makes it clear that everything I thought about Leonidas DiJesseVentura was twice as true as I thought it was. The issue with both is they were made by people who weren't adapting the source material faithfully and/or giving the fans what they wanted to see. They were "doing their own thing." So first they get basic character details and backstory wrong, then they get the tone wrong, then they get the look wrong, etc. It doesn't play out, "we're going to completely change who the character is, but other than that, it'll capture everything you know and love about the franchise."

Yeah, that Lorenzo interview infuriated me. The man is slowly strangling the entire IP and Hasbro is allowing it. Pisses me off as a huge fan of Larry Hama’s work.

Not only did the film not help the franchise, it HURT the franchise. Once again, Hasbro & Paramount eject the characters and story that built GI Joe's fanbase- "in pursuit of a new audience-" and utterly FAIL.
You please the fans, and they enthusiastically bring in that next generation of consumers (their children) as well as market your franchise for you on social media. But NO. They rejected "A Real American Hero" for "Global Team" (again!) They race-swapped a main character (Snake-Eyes) where it literally changes his entire essence and story. Hasbro and Paramount are ASHAMED of owning an American patriot-themed property. And when they fail now for the third time, they'll blame eveyone but themselves. |

The problem is that chucking all existing continuity out the window and making a new thing worked for them.
Once. With Transformers. Deviating from that formula would be admitting that was a fluke and they have no idea how they did it. So they will never deviate from that formula.

Tom Cruise's The Mummy killed the Dark Universe in spite of making $400M+ and the last Tomb Raider didn't do that franchise many favors. If we see original ideas/scripts come from Hollywood in the next decade, the old greats will likely fade away.

It still baffles me that there has been three G.I. Joe films and Michael bay hasn't been attached to a single one, you could slap "VS. G.I Joe" on every Transformer film he has directed and it would kind of work, his films are so patriotic and Military heavy.

Honestly, I voted no, but now that I think about it, I’d change my vote to “didn’t move the needle”. The brand was already hurting before the movie and I don’t think that changed anything.

It all depends on what the Hasbro execs think. That's why it's too early to tell.
