For a minute I thought you were talking about WandaVision & Loki, which have been massive gamechangers for Disney Plus. I think the Netflix deal is long over. Daredevil and Punisher were "killed off" while those shows were still major hits. Speculation seems to have been born out that Disney had them axed in anticipation of Disney Plus. Also at least Daredevil (same actor) is likely headed to the MCU very soon.
The other shows just weren't as interesting--visually, storyline, everything really. Last edited by Mega Convoy; 07-26-2021 at 12:07 PM.. |

Ultimately, G.I. Joe's biggest asset is its huge amount of characters. It doesn't get boring because it jumps around to so many different types of characters, and touches on different genres. The idea of focusing a G.I. Joe show on just one character is a non-starter that will go nowhere. No Joe fan ever asked for a solo Lady Jaye series. We all know why Hollywood wants to focus on a "girl power" show. It's a cliche at this point to take an existing franchise and change it to have a female lead. It's not right for this brand. If it was a FLINT AND Lady Jaye show, it might have more potential to be good at least. A romantic couple as leads in an action-adventure is almost completely ignored these days, but has been popular in the past (Hart to Hart, Romancing the Stone). LOL, dude, those billions come almost SOLELY from the Transformers franchise. He's just grifting off Hasbro's properties. Almost everything else he puts out is low-grossing schlock. Even if you're right about Hasbro not wanting to do a military theme, TONS of other filmmakers could've made a genuinely good Snake-Eyes movie that got the fans excited. I would've loved to see one. Just like I wanted a Ghostbusters sequel. But I didn't want the Wokebusters we got in 2016 or the Woke-Eyes we just got. The whole point of this movie from Hollywood's perspective was to take a popular character and have it "claimed" by a non-white-male. Hence, they had to portray him as unmasked, and destroy the mystique of the character completely. That didn't matter to them because the goal was not to celebrate the source material or adapt it faithfully.[/QUOTE] The person(s) they should really be focusing on are Orci and Kurtzman, one of the biggest successful teams in sci-fi tv and movie history of the last 20 some-odd years. |

The movie industry as a whole is a mess right now so I don't think this movie, good or bad, would have much of an effect on the brand since barely anyone is going to see movies in theaters. My mind was blown when I arrived at the theater on a Friday evening just to find that nobody was there to see *any* movie. There was no line to get snacks. There was just nobody.
Between the pandemic and only having to wait six weeks for a theatrical release to get an at-home release, there isn't much incentive for people to go to theaters these days. Even pre-COVID, I only went to theaters like once every two years. Snake Eyes was my first IMAX movie in maybe 15+ years? I felt like an excited kid when I was there.

In terms of giving joe a 15 minutes of fame spotlight the movie sis. In terms of did the movie tell a good, cohesive story, with depth and charisma and good action…..no it filed miserably. Poor fight sequences, actors and actress so boring it made phantom menace look good and narrative that didnt know where the hell it was supposed to go.

Poll is missing an "movie harms the brand by aggressively undermining the lore" option.

Snake-Eyes has had a minimum of seven different origin stories in the last 30 years (and I'm probably missing a couple: Marvel Comics, Devil's Due Reloaded, IDW, Sigma 6, Renegades, Rise of Cobra, GI Joe Origins). The movie is just number seven on that list. About the only universal constants in Snake-Eyes' lore are that he at some point trained with the Arashikage and Storm Shadow is his former bestie turned frenemy. This movie had both of those, so it's hard to say it "undermined the lore." |

I’ll believe that Lady Jaye series is happening when I see it.
Also, if I’m a Hasbro shareholder I would be taking a long look at Brian Goldner and wondering whether or not this guy, who seems to know nothing about making movies, should be leading the company into the future. Goldner spent a ton of the shareholders money to acquire eOne only to produce garbage like this. Between this and the underperformance of Bumblebee it might be time for him to get a pink slip. |

Nothing from eOne was involved in Snake Eyes. The film was already in production when Hasbro acquired them. The name appeared in the credits because Hasbro basically retired its “Allspark Pictures” label in favor of “eOne”.

If you got your way, what would you want the next chapter to be? Not of Snake Eyes, but just the next time you see G.I. Joe in general as a movie? It’s funny, there’s 10 pages of one draft that got the tone exactly where I thought it should be. And I gave it to every director and every writer, and then they rejected it. What was it? The short version of it it was, one of the Joes is taken. The command says, “Nothing we could do.” Four or five of them band to say, “All right, we’re taking our leave.” They dress up in civies. And they go into a territory, let’s call it… https://uproxx.com/movies/lorenzo-di...of-the-beasts/ So you have to ask yourself, why didn't anybody want to fuck with this project? On paper it's a JOE film and it was true to the source material. Quote:
The issue isn't that S.E. was unmasked and spoke. The problem was S.E. was unmasked and spoke in Snake Eyes: G.I. JOE Origins.
