Hama was the guy walking down the alley with an umbrella. It slowed down the movie for a good 10 sec.

I saw it yesterday and was entertained. Didn't love it, but I didn't hate it either. I was willing to bend a bit to the fact that this was going to be a new story. Being a frequent flyer to Japan, I did like that they were actually scenes.in.Japan with recognizable places, (not like some movies.) The Hama cameo was fun. As much as they changed the story around I've learned to accept this with most new films. I watch a lot of martial arts movies, so my biggest gripe was that the fighting was only so-so & that masks were practically non-existent. Storm Shadow's part was acted well imho. Akiko was a nice addition, even if the actors would sometimes muckle her name's pronunciation.

Went into this movie with low expectations based on all the changes to his comic origins. Was surprised that I really enjoyed this movie. Even my girlfriend thought she was going to hate it but she liked it as well. Sure there’s some stupid things in the plot we noticed but overall it was a good ninja flick. I left the theater wanting to see a Joe movie with this snake eyes. The cast did a great job. Henry Golding was great. I can swear he called Hard Master “Hard on Master” lol. Thought that was great.

What frustrates me even more than the movie, is the lack of any product on the shelves whatsoever. All year we have heard this nonsense about a big movie tie in. Lots of products. An entire section or endcap. There is literally fuck all out there right now. What a complete joke of a business model. I honestly don't know how they continue to fuck up this property so bad. It's clear at this point we don't need a media tie in to sell toys. There are no toys. They were all sold before the movie came around. I sincerely hope that's the one thing hasbro learns from this whole fiasco, but knowing them, they won't.
Even the promo displays that have appeared are just a smattering of assorted GI Joe products, and seem mostly for stores that don't have significant dedicated toy sections. Quote:

I just want a Classified Movie Scarlett ... but good luck ever finding one.

G.I. JOE lends itself better to episodic narrative storytelling where there's more of an opportunity to flesh out character and plot development over say a ten ot thirteen episode season as opposed to a two hour movie.
I'm actually hopeful for the Lady Jaye Amazon series. Seriously, how hard can it be to fuck a t.v. show about a secret agent? If the Lady Jaye show bricks then somebody went out of their way to fuck it up. Although I'm afraid I'll watch the Lady Jaye thing and won't recognize her as the character. However, she's not a very well developed character. Quote:
In Jerwa's expansion of Larry's origin, his own father tells him that he's "hard to read, even for me." And his LLRP teammates think he's creepy and he avoids talking to them if he can. He speaks in single word sentences. Tommy served with him on a previous tour of duty in a former squad, and in fact they lost their FIRST entire unit also. SE blames himself. He feels that if he ever opens up and becomes friends with this second unit that they too will die. Stalker met him prior to the LRRP squad just after that time he intervened in the Eustace DeCobray situation and that is the period of his life he was doing CIA covert ops. Tommy is receptive to him even when he's being a cold jerk, SE is clearly an icy personality. Tommy chides him that "you put up walls" between himself and others and Snake-Eyes is like "I'm just here to do a job." It's also interesting that Tommy is notably younger and more optimistic and SE is way physically buffer and world-weary. Snake-Eyes talks about his spiritual beliefs and that he's trying to make a deal with God that if he continues to put himself into harm's way to protect the innocent, that nothing will happen to his family. Snake-Eyes is a cold, isolated, overly serious, unpleasant and intense man to be around before the accident. After the accident he gets worse. Quote:
He also refers to this as his "Snake-Eyes curse." He believes that people he cares about always die because of him. He isolates away, running away, living off the land in the mountains. Doc oversaw his surgeries after the accident and was worried about his psychological profile. Doc was ostensibly transfered to GiJoe to continue overseeing his recovery. He was already known as Snake-Eyes during Vietnam and his teammates didn't know his name even back then, so he may have ditched a real name during his CIA days. The swordsmith Onihashi makes fun of his name during his days in the Arashikage. She was the only interesting draw from the trailers to me. She looked like fire.

Dude, NOTHING since The Force Awakens has seen the sort of massive rollout you seem to have been expecting. And there will be a healthy amount of product for Snake Eyes..assuming retail stores get stuff out there. Again, Snake Eyes got a larger toy range than Shang Chi, a Marvel film.
Even the promo displays that have appeared are just a smattering of assorted GI Joe products, and seem mostly for stores that don't have significant dedicated toy sections. Because retailers haven't done their fall resets. According to one of the managers (that I know don't bullshit me) my local Walmart won't do the action figure set until next week. I'm hopeful GI Joe stuff will be a part of it given they just put out a fresh case of Retro after not carrying the line this past spring. Disregarding the physical guys, Amazon has had Ninja Core figures (and assorted other products) since LAST MONTH For eff sake, she isn't even on tap for the first waves of Classified movie figures! She was always going to be "wave 2", which has been slated for October since reveal. Worried about finding it? PREORDER IT! https://www.entertainmentearth.com/p...figure/hsf0111 https://www.bigbadtoystore.com/Produ...Details/157029 We read and heard for the longest time over and over again that Hasbro was holding back movie product in stateside warehouses. That there would be "several feet" of G.I. Joe product on shelves in retail stores come movie time. Well, where is it? The lame NEW excuse of "stores have to do their seasonal resets" is bogus. Has any movie tie-ins in the past waited around for seasonal resets? No. Waiting WEEKS after a movie has already come out to put out product is terrible marketing. The rate that this movie is not making money it will be out of theaters by the time stores get their resets done. I bet the box office drops like 70% next week. The movie tie-in products should have been out before the movie with those stupid street dates. This was the time when street dates make sense. When it ties into a movie release. Instead we got them earlier for no reason. Mattel seemed to be able to get MOTU product out on shelves that tied into their new cartoon series that came out the same day. Haven't heard anything about MOTU needing to wait for a season reset. I wonder what the next excuse will be? I'm going to guess shipping problems. People will blame that next. I don't know about others here but EVERY job I have ever had my bosses would not except any excuses. I was expected to "figure it out, adapt, and overcome." For example, I've seen companies lately blaming shipping. "We can't get shipping containers" or whatever. So they just give up and say will get the product to the states whenever, 6 months from now. Again, past jobs I have had I would have been fired for that excuse. I would be expected to figure it out. Fly overseas and secure containers if need be. Fly the product in. Whatever it takes. I am just amazed how so many people stay employed who seem to do a crap job, make excuses, never problem solve, never fix things, or make things right. This is mostly a moot point for us collectors as long as we can continue to easily order stuff online. However, it should be a serious problem for Hasbro trying to attract NEW kids to the franchise. They need that product to be on store shelves for them. |
