10 years from now we will get something else.
I mean Hasbro still makes bank on the kiddie toys and...Monopoly games. Ya gotta figure they will hold on to GI Joe forever and eventually they will get back to a studio who is brave enough to invest in a movie again. However in 10 years theater going may not be a thing any longer. But ya gotta figure the Big H is stubborn enough to whip up something in 10 years. If....a variant doesnt do the human race all in by then. |

IMO, a trilogy loosely based on "Arise, Serpentor, Arise" would have been ideal. With most key characters remaining recognizable* to longtime fans, and only a few very minor, cosmetic changes to the storyline**.
However, since a low-budget "Renegades"-style "A-Team"-ripoff is likely a lot more realistic at the current moment ... Hasbro should seriously consider looking outside the box (way outside) for a director. The MCU has dramatically benefited from its innovative filmmakers (Ryan Coogler, Anna Boden, ChloƩ Zhao, now Nia DaCosta), and the HCU could, too. So why not hire an actual artist (with directorial experience) such as Swoon or St. Vincent? And/or "real" writers like Lydia Millet and/or Nova Ren Suma? * Appearance-wise ... for the most part. ** Synopsis: An international adventure force assembles to prevent the evil Dr Mindbender from collecting the DNA of history's greatest leaders (Catherine the Great, Joan of Arc, Lucrezia Borgia, Emma Goldman, Benazir Bhutto, etc) to create the ultimate Cobra Empress, Serpentra.

Their Classified figures rarely hit distribution in Walmart's around the USA and are not very common outside of specialty stores like Gamestop or whatever. Most seem regulated to online and second market jacking up prices. They were also tied to a failed video game and possibly a cancelled cartoon, their designs arent the greatest. Snake-Eyes bombed real bad and was a train wreak of a movie to ever get greenlit in the first place.
They never tied their tactical teams of Transformers films to GI JOE. Even their Transformers films have seen diminishing returns and suffering franchise fatigue. Cena could've been Hawk/Duke easily and their could've been many ways to go if they wanted a universe - they're pretty much slobs with very little care and very little faith or understanding about their GI JOE brand and they nailed its coffin. |

These franchises have a wealth and breadth of history, both story and visual, so vast that they should never run out of ideas just to rehash. Millions of dollars and they crash and burn on shit as simple as character names, look, or personality.

When old whats-his-name set that hapless henchman on fire with the magic rock, I was like, “ohman, thank god it took me three days to get to this scene, or I might actually be pissed.”

Snake Eyes ended the career of veteran Paramount CEO Jim Gianopulos who has been fired. Deadline Hollywood says the failure of Snake Eyes was the final straw for Viacom. Paramount is now moving forward with an emphasis on streaming.

It should end a lot more careers than that.
A company that would cancel FSS and Joecon a few years(2018) just before a major studio and big budget release film carrying the brand and franchise, is not a company that cares about their brand, franchise or the fans. |

Decided not to see it in theatres once I found out it was a reboot. :( I wonder when G.I. Joe 3's or 4 now (lol) is coming out. I hope Breaker and Scarlett returns. I'll probably watch SE on Amazon next month. Right now I'm doing another Transformers/G.I. Joe chronological rewatch with an updated order.
1. Bumblebee: Year 1987 (On Paramount+) 2. Transformers: Year 2007 (On HBO Max) 3. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen: Year 2009 (Amazon) - Currently On 4. Transformers: Dark of the Moon: Year 2011/2012 (On Paramount+) 5. G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra: Between 2014-2015. Due to Joe Films President being on 2nd Term and Obama was President in Transformers 2 and 3 from 2008-2011 or 2012. And the Fiscal Year 2016 was mentioned in Retaliation in the future tense, (i.e. "By 2016"). (On Amazon) 6. G.I. Joe: Retaliation: 2015, takes place a few months apart from the first movie due to some dialogue from Zartan as the president and Lady Jaye sharing evidence to Roadblock and Flint that the President could be an imposter. 7. Transformers: Age of Extinction - Year 2016 or 2017 5 years after DOTM. (On Paramount+) 8. Transformers: The Last Knight - Year 2017 because of a prop of Sir Edmund Burton's tombstone was sold at an auction with his death date being 2017 (Anthony Hopkins' character). (On Amazon) Another possibility for these Joe Films to work with Transformers is if Joe films take place after The Last Knight and M.A.R.S. Destro's company assisted in rebuilding the world. Maybe Cobra and Joes used Cybertronian tech. It'd be nice before Transformers and G.I. Joe Crossover film Hasbro releases an official timeline of the Joe and Transformers movies. With all due respect what makes you think they will? The joe movie just sunk Hasbro's battleship.

Also, good thing Hasbro DIDN'T hedge everything on Snake Eyes given its "blink and you miss it" theatrical release.
