Just sat through this and here are my thoughts. I went into this with an open mind as far as what to expect. I figured in no way shape or form could it be worse than ROC and sure enough it was a much better film. Where ROC felt like a cheap made for Sci fi tv movie this felt like a bonified action film.
Now there were some moments that I liked and some moments I disliked. I dislike the "anaconda" scene as it just didn't make much sense for the setting. I disliked some of the early fight sequences, like a lot of action movies you have a bunch of guys with guns that nobody seems to use, they just choose to throw blows or swing swords yet the only people getting hit are the bad guys. I really liked the cast even some that I thought I'd dislike, such as the Baroness. Both Golding and Koji were fantastic in there respective roles but IMO more time could have been spent building there relationship. At one point I started thinking Snake Eyes was the antagonist which atm didn't make much sense but did help fuel what would be the fire that burned the bridge that brought SE and SS together so at least it felt like they were trying to give Storm Shadow a reason for joining Cobra. I always thought that the Zartan story in the comics was a bit weak to be honest anyway. My big let down and I hope I am wrong here is that SE never lost his voice prior to wearing the mask and it almost seems as if they plan to continue this although it could just be something they do in the sequel since no time at all was spent building the SE/ Scarlett relationship. Prior to watching the movie a lot of the reviews I read seemed to complain that it never felt like a Gi Joe movie which I do agree with but at the same time I don't think it should have since it was a Snake Eyes movie set PRIOR to him joining the team so IMO that is completely justifiable. In fact I would have been fine had they just left the Joe's out completely. I'd definitely like to see a sequel and I hope that this does help to bring in a new set of fans. To be honest it is a bit disheartening to hear supposed long time fans shitting all over a brand they claim to love. Overall it's a good movie and I would say a 7.5 out of 10.

This movie was an overly long, and pointless pile of action sequences with no brains, spirit or heart involved. Action first and storyline second is never a good idea, especially with poorly conceived concept and storyline combined with with B movie grade actors and script with lots of money. Its storyline all over the place. Its like a big budget web-series but no love for the material. Scott Eastwood or Charlie Hunnum would've made a good Snake-Eyes if they wanted to go the maskless route and could've been faithful to the old Marvel comic books.
This film is a disgrace to the characters, which are mostly in name only anyway. If anything it makes ROC feel or look a superior GI JOE movie, or at least can make one more appreciate it,lol. On side note, its strange that this movie was originally billed as a kinda prequel until it was said it was a full reboot. Cause there is certainly some strange stuff to make it like it could've be a prequel to the past two movies - which already had a continuity problem anyway. They probably thought this movie would do better than the last two outings and so added new scenes to make its own thing. The only half descent character was the Baroness, and she's barely in it and it she's as pointless as Scarlet. GI JOE and Cobra being tossed around in name and weight feel more like an after thought added later. There is no weight to them, its rather comical even. |

So apparently the budget for this was somewhere between 88 - 110 million (how is that possible?)
Did Execs just give themselves bonuses or something off of this? Right now its B.O. is 36.9 billion (approximately). Even if chumps rented the digital I can't see that adding to this too much. The "Kid who would be King" is less of a disaster. |

I just saw it and... Why is this movie called origins? We saw no origins. We saw young SE then jumped to adult SE who was already skilled enough to beat a top ninja clan. So who trained him? That's the origins we needed to see.

I’ll give you a spoiler, it sucked lol… okay, maybe that wasn’t a spoiler, think nearly everyone going in knew this already… with the Fast and the Furious and Mortal Kombat scenes squashed into a Ninja sandwich with a sprinkle of GI Joe on top, that roughly the movie.. oh and Scarlett looking like a little girl in cosplay with a wooden American accent to-boot, and that was one of the better things in this film! Paramount has killed off any hope of us having our GI Joe rebooted franchise now, we may never get another GI Joe film ever again sadly, hope I’m wrong about that!
Why couldn’t they just loosely base it on proper cannon, its not rocket science?!? This felt like a poorly written and poor special effects What-If? movie Hasbro style! Last edited by LEEE777; 08-25-2021 at 06:34 PM.. |
