Um ... Profs McPherson and Wilentz were/are pushing back against both "the 1776 report" AND "1619 project", actually*. In fact, Prof McPherson is (almost certainly) one of the "three Pulitzer Prize-winning historians" you are referring to.
Regardless, I'm sure we can all agree it's hardly Hasbro's (or Paramount's) place to be teaching the "true" meaning of "American values". Thus it would be wise for them to steer clear of such polarizing topics entirely. Aside, of course, from speaking out on & standing up for undeniably universal truths (SEE the links in my sig and/or profile page). * And, imo, were half-right in doing so.

Going to Newsweek to find out what the authoritarian corporations want us to think is true about the opinions of the humans of the world is really bowing at the altar.
The American appeal, the valor, pride, and heroism is the core of GiJoe. It was when I was a kid. Man, that was the best. Deeply inspirational, deeply motivational and giving a kid something to aspire to. I remember about eight years ago when people could still be laughed at for saying "half this country won't take their kids to an Independence Day event because they want their kids to grow up hating their own country." And there was a pretend sense of offense if you said that. GiJoe is the perfect vehicle for reintroducing the concepts of sincerity, gratitude and joy to a generation starving for them. We live in the best era for humans, ever. There is no reason to go backwards when we can continue to grow and why not let this beloved brand be a part of that. |

Yes they are. I have an entire thread thread explaining why. If you want to get specific Hasbro is anti U.S. military.

As a life long fan of G.I. Joe and a veteran, I have to say that I was initially opposed to the new movie as well. I didn't agree with them changing the ethnicity and backstory for Snake-Eyes. That all changed in short order. I have to say that this has been the best G.I. Joe movie yet!
Not only did they have great talent leading the cast ( Golding / Koji ), but they also utilized one of if not the best fight and stunt coordinators in the business ( Tanigaki ). All the way through the action and plot pacing were on par with each other. The dynamic between Snake-Eyes and Storm Shdaow was there, and Mr. Larry Hama was on set as a technical advisor to the cast and director. Furthermore, they took great care to remain faithful to the historical and traditional aspects of Japanese culture, while maintaining that sense of fantasy that is all throughout the G.I. Joe cartoons and comics. I really do not see or understand what everyone is whining about? Some people complained about the Jewel of the Sun and the Third trial, and to those I would ask this: Do you recall the Weather Dominator? Do you recall giant snakes from Cobra-la? Sometimes I think that there are people out there expecting movies like this to be tailored made just for them, as if they are the only fan of the franchise. If that's you, Then you need to grow up, get a job, and get out of your mom's basement! Yo Joe! |

Yes, I remember the weather dominator and Cobra-La. Those were part of cartoons designed to sell toys to kids 40 years ago. They weren't multi-million dollar Hollywood productions designed to bring relevance to a franchise.

pretty much this, some of the episodes from the animated series from the 80's have better writing and direction.

The worst part of the movie is the fact that they had Anacondas which is a South American constrictor in a Asian ninja pit when Asia already has a native snake in the Reticulated Python which is the world's longest snake. And they also had fangs. wtf

Much, much worse yet was the fact that these over-sized snakes could tell if you were pure of heart by sniffing you, lol. LAME!!!

Yeah as a reptile person though that should have stuck out as well but I forgot about that part. I think at this point I was wondering what the hell I was watching.
