Random interesting note:
This stinker's budget was S88 million. Raiders of the Lost Ark, an unquestioned masterpiece, cost $17-20 million in 1981, which, according to a quick Google search, would be around $55-60 million today. Roughly two-thirds of the cost. What on earth did they spend $88 million on in this piece of trash? |

I barely care about movies anymore anyway. Movies are the watered down versions of just about every method of story telling there is. I'd rather see a mini series for most things. Movies are bad and full-blown TV shows always get canceled on a cliff-hanger after one to three seasons. Just give me 16-24 episodes of *something* that starts a story and finishes it.

Ouch! Though this may be hard for some to swallow, there is unquestionably a terrible stigma attached to the name/brand "G.I. Joe". As well as a clear lack of respect/outright disdain for the source material (including apparently among the screenwriters themselves). Perhaps it truly is time to turn the page.
They do NOT speak for humans en large. That's the *reason* they get to hold the microphone.

More corporate authoritarian slogans. These are just slogans. Humans get to live, breath, and think outside of being told what-to-do by the elite.
You don't HAVE to live in the Hunger Games future. There are bright and joyful alternatives. Resist, man.

Yes, several of the complaints seem rather contradictory. However, my point was less about echoing any specific criticisms, than highlighting the overall dismissive attitude displayed towards the brand by "mainstream media" (of which these reviews were simply a small sampling).

This statement is a critique of the movie franchise not movie itself. Her “long in the tooth” description is funny since she’s not likely very “long in the tooth” herself. Her Joe knowledge dates likely dates back to 2009 and RoC. Probably has no concept of the beloved property of the 80’s.

It didn't and it won't. Go to Variety and Box Office Mojo and read the articles. This did not make the money it was expected to. Even figuring in COVID. It does not sound good for this film franchise based on those articles. It cost $88M to make. They marketed the shit out of it. I saw ads for it everywhere. Variety said it will have to make $170M just to break even. This movie is not going to do that after a $13M opening. It will make probably less than half that next week. I actually thought the movie was OK. Nothing good but not terrible either. But this will go down as a flop, lose millions of dollars, and this very well could then end the current era of G.I. Joe. I think we all should be a little concerned.

There are many people who are quite knowledgeable concerning G.I. Joe lore regardless of age and/or "having grown up with" the original cartoon/toys. Though whether she is one of them, I have no idea. I’m just saying I take much more stock in moviegoer reviews then critics. Some people have biases and agendas. So best to listen to an “average” of many. IMHO |

I’m going bet a lot of these reviewers are dismissive of anything not in their wheelhouse so to speak. Mainstream media isn’t what it used to be. If you look at Ms Rubin’s Twitter pic she’s likely not even 30. I’ll make the assumption she knows next to nothing about Joe. Can’t prove it but it’s safe bet. Probably more Twitter cred for her to bash the movie.
