I didn't think Van Helsing was particularly good, but I didn't absolutely hate it. However several of my friends did, and I definitely felt like it was a waste of the "Universal Monsters" characters and of the awesome potential of the monster-hunter concept and that wacky Renaissance-era gadgetry and costuming they had.
In short, the movie had an awesome concept...it just wasn't executed very well. |

I think the movie is considered to be a marginal success. They will not lose money on it and they are going ahead with a sequel. I'm glad to see that the toyline has gotten a big push from Hasbro like Star Wars and Transformers. I don't think TRU ever put out as much 25th stuff as they have the ROC toys.
I think it is clear from the Hasbro Q&A that any future GI-Joe will be ROC themed. That is the new direction they are taking it. But, that won't stop Hasbro from giving us figures and vehicles that we want. It just won't be branded 25th/Classic/Resolute GI-Joe. I still think it would have been better to produce a new animated TV series rather than a movie. The TV series might have more staying power with kids that would carry them through to Christmas. |

GI JOE has been around before ROC and will be around long after ROC is gone. We will see ARAH again in 5, 10 or 15 years. We will see more figures from ROC after the sequel comes out and we will see figures based on a children's line of ROC (cartoon that is) if they ever make it?
GI JOE will be around for a very long time. |

The recent Transformers Animated series failed to do that, although I think the designs alone may be to blame for turning off the older fans....

Paramount wants RoC to be a financial success.
Hasbro doesn't need it to be. RoC, from all reports, is a HUGE hit with the kids. Kids, for the most part, are the ones that buy toys. Hasbro doesn't care if the teen/adult demographic doesn't like RoC, they aren't the toy buyers. For Hasbro, RoC is the hook to get the kids into buying the toys. The adult collectors would buy the toys regardless of the movie, if they would buy 'em at all. So really, RoC could barely make it's budget back, and it could end up being a big success as far as Hasbro is concerned.

Pleased to meet you. I am MachineGunEtiquette and I hated Van Helsing. More specifically I hated the lame story line, terrible acting, atrocious CGI werewolf effects, the effeminate Frankenstein's Monster, Dracula's weird baby things, the predictable as hell plot and well I could go on but whatever. The toys were mildly amusing, the game was fun and Kate Beckinsale was the only enjoyable part of this. If you want to know how awesome it is go look for it used at a movie stop, I think the collectors edition is $2.99 (oh and on a side note, I am a hugely massively big horror movie fan, as well as a universal monster fan) now to bring it back to joe.... I hope the future of the line does not rest on this bomb of a movie. They spent way too muc on a two hour commercial that there probably won't be another and the toy aisle at all the local stores are FLOODED with untouched product. I was at a wal mart this morning and they have already taken the GI joe stuff down off the main aisle and put it on one of the back endcaps by the clearance section....right next to the Star Trek stuff.

Whats with comparing ROC to the Dark Knight? Dark Knight was the best movie ever and ROC sucked, no more comparison needed.

When you look at the Indy toy line, it's hard to measure how much the film had on the sale of the toys. If the film was better, would more toys have sold and if the film was worse, would the toys have done worse? How do you measure this, I wonder. |
