With all the CGI, couldn't it be considered at least part animated? It was almost as if the people were the only 'live' part - at least the ones that could act

I just saw the Rise of Cobra movie last night. Ouch!
Personally, I think they would have gotten ALOT further with this if they went for it being animated (I mean top notch animated). I know the animation thing for GI JOE has been done before, but I mean go all out with it on this movie ....could have invested bigger money in the voices (Named actors/actresses with distinct movie voices) as well as a solid story. The movie would have not cost anywhere as much to make and would have been received better by all. GI JOE can not, should not have been done with live actors/actresses. i 2nd that thats why i think resolute was the way to go and make it a 2hr movie. |

An animated movie would have tanked (heh) over here, and I don't see "America's Fighting Force" doing any better overseas where animation is more highly respected.

I wouldnt have wanted another animated Joe movie, we have had many over the years, including Resolute which was awesome. A live action movie was long over due.

This standpoint makes no sense really.
According to the OP, the film was a 'mess'. So, if it had been the same movie (same script, same designs, replicated shot for shot) but animated, would you have liked it more? Equally you would have liked a live action film done 'differently', so whether it was animated or not makes not a bit of difference except maybe critics would have cut it (marginally) more slack.

an animated movie woulda failed like any other action animated movie. How many animated movies are produced now that are successful that are PG-13 or above?

I would say that an animated film would not be as successful
