Well, I'm of two minds on this.
A) Great that they have enough faith to give another Joe flick a go. B) And it sucks, because the ROC debating will continue, now that we know there will be another one. I'm already tired of the ton of threads bashing, whining, complaining, supporting, and breaking down of the movie. Sigh. More to come, I suppose. I do hope that whatever happens, they maybe take a look at some things and make some changes, and don't go the TF route (more of the same, just bigger). |

I intend to write to hasbro and make a complaint about the film, like I didnt like the suits and where the Joe base was, which was Egypt, WTF, is G.I.JOE a real egyptian Hero now, or a real American Hero?
this director has got too much sand in his head, and I hope they move the Joe base since Cobra knows where they are, and I hope they bring Sgt Slaughter in number 2, cause Sgt Stone was no Sgt. but a private if you ask me. I also think that Snake Eyes should have worn boots instead of shoes, and this movie looked like Men in Black to me, than G.I.JOE cause of there clothes and weapons. I can see G.I.JOE get remade in the future, just like the Batman saga did. the one who played Ripcord acted, sounded and looked more like Alphine to me than Ripcord, and the Baroness was already Destro's lover and not Dukes in the Comics and Cartoons, what's going on here? this is a re make of an old film I once saw. cant remember the title, but I first saw it in the 80's. I thought that Wayans played his role well, whether people think he is more like ripcord or alpine or neither doesn't matter to me. He brought something to the table which was comic relief. If it wasn't for his character their wouldn't be one laugh throughout the whole movie. |

ok saw he movie last night here in the philippines.....let me say I was a complete hater b4 the movie came out becuz I was expecting this to be a serious attempt at making a joe movie.....but I was surprised at how campy 75 percent of it was and I really liked that part of it..there were times when it tried to be serious and it is laughable.......I hated duke and ripcord and those suit things... get rid of them and bring in Flint for the next one..I also thought scarlet seemed weak in this ..more like a daddys girl then a soldier...but she was hot damn!....baroness was awesome even though she had no accent...and so damn hot.. yum yum .....but the one who stole the show was Levitt as doctor/commander ...he was so campy and over the top it was awesome...perfect for this movie he was great ...I hope he uses more of the doctors voice in the sequel though....so all and all... yeah bring on the sequel ..just get rid of channing and wayons...fuck them they suck chromed destro dick

In this joe universe they are "international heroes". Hence Hasbro's pandering to international movie audiences etc. Their a company that wants to make profit, can't blame them for that. SGt. Stone sucked, not even sure why he was cast in the movie. Bad Sommers.

You know, I was so pleased with Resolute, I'm thinking I might try to start an online push to get Warren Ellis to write at least the first draft of the second film.

It's GI Joe. If Sommers doesn't direct, that would fine with me. I look at a sequel as a chance at redemption, at this point anyways.

I like the direction Sommers went in. Even though I liked the movie, I will say it seems like it was kinda rushed. I think Stephen Sommers would be excellent again, but if he couldn't do it, Sam Raimi would be a good fit. He showed everyone that he can make the hero thing work in Spiderman. He also does both dark and campy very well.

best post ever and this seems right on the money,

Hate to tell you this but you and Samantha are wrong:
Okay let me explain this for all of us that confused: When you buy a movie ticket the money does not just go to the Production company. The house keeps a profit. for every dollar spent 60 cents goes to the production company and 40 cents stays with the theater. A movie theater takes in about 45% of all ticket sales. But for the sake of argument we will say 40% leaving the other 60% for the studio. So if ROC has made thus far 164 million worldwide.... The studio has made around 90 million...... Far from a hit! This is why they say a film has to do double its budget to make any money back..... ROC is not going to make that. When you compare it to a movie like Fantastic Four you also have to remember that their production budget was only 100 million, 75 million less than ROC........ what that means is they only had to hit anything over 200 million to start making a profit.......Fantastic Four stopped at 330 million dollars. Impressive for a 100 million dollar film. Again Roc has to make almost 200 million dollars more than where they are at right now. They need at least 300 million to be considered breaking even. Does anyone really think they are going to pull that off? District 9 is going to be the Little Engine that could and continue to dominate over ROC until Inglorious Basterds comes out in four days. Toy sales, does Paramount get a piece of the pie? The only indication that Paramount will make anything off these figures is the use of the likeness of the toys. But the reality is that we don't know if they will see a dime. Either way toy sales are no way factored in the decision to make a sequel. Again as I have said in other posts: Studios do not count DVD sales into their equation.....They go by Theatrical sales and theatrical sales only to determine if a film is a hit. Now DVD sales can help get a sequel greenlit but that is the exception not the norm. Not to mention that studios spend a pretty penny to promote the DVD release........ DVD sales are factored into recoup that loss..... DVD sales are not used to offset Pre-production, production, marketing and or anything else. They are an entity onto themselves. A GI JOE sequel would need to be bigger and more expensive then ROC....... Paramount is going to have to think long and hard if they are willing to spend over 175 million.... that's a huge commitment. Or they hire a Director that knows how to budget a film. |

Sounds great to me. I really enjoyed the heck out of this movie and a sequel should be a lot of fun.
