Yes, a few years ago it would have been almost unheard of for someone like Branagh to take the reins of a movie like Thor.
But the success of the X-Men and Spider-Man franchises, and the success -and- critical acclaim of Iron Man and The Dark Knight really have started to turn that around. I just don't get the impression that phenomenon has rubbed off onto the "toy-based" properties yet, and probably won't until a Transformers or G.I. Joe or Masters of the Universe or even freakin' Thundercats movie ends up getting a level of critical acclaim equal to some of those previous comic-book movies. Basically Transformers has proven that there's some money in this whole "80's toyline nostalgia thing" but they're generally regarded as bad movies despite making lots of money, so "reputable"/"prestigious" directors tend to not want to get too close. I seriously think toy movies are still only considered about one step up from video game adaptations on the expected level of quality-meter. |

When I think of Thor I think of mythology first. What would really irk me about Thor if it was really based from that perspective as a comic book character. To me he, is more than the one portrayed in the Comics which I never followed, was not a big comic book kid. He wa sa norse god that was worshiped by a lot of people during the time in history he was thought up and written about. He isnpired a lot fo things to this day. That says alot about the name Thor...and the appeal he has beyond toys and comics...
Also nothing to stop Hasbro form evolving into an entertainment company as well, they are about to launch thier own TV channel so who knows what they have planned for thier future. They could end up being bigger than Marvel Entertainment or buy em out eventually kinda like Microsoft would do a smaller software firm

All I know is that Brian Blessed is Odin, the All-Father, and his voice is made of awesome and nearly equal in power to Chuck Norris's fist.

Great News, can't wait for GI Joe Sequel. My hope these ideas will be part of the sequel,
New unforms for CC, Destro and Baroness. All cobra troops will have the Cobra logo on their unforms. Big hope that the Baroness new unform will look like the 1984 figure, big armor boots, armor chest and gloves. 2) CC will turn Ana/Baroness totally evil. 3) Duke falls for new Joe member Helix. I wonder who they cast for Helix? 4) I hope Linx, Lady Jaye, Flint and few more joes appear in the sequel (become part of the alpha team) and for the cobras too. 5) I hope Cobra will have 2 or 3 secret locations for the sequel, like Cobra Island, Springfield and or course where the main battle for the 2nd film take place. I wonder will filming start in Winter/spring in 2010? |

Joe stories need sci-fi elements. i actually LIKE the nano-mites/nanites/nano-bots idea and the little buggers eating the eifel tower. it's just as absurd as "cold slither" subliminal messages that brainwash kids when they hear it and a secret US missle hidden inside of a highrise hotel on a beach resort in "new miami" which is located on the jersey shore. those are the elements that help to make Joe what it was and is. the campy sci-fi elements coupled with real world military. its what made cobra that much more of a scary threat, because they were capable of more than we could imagine, and made the Joe team so much of a force because they had cutting edge weaponry. what i don't like is the treatment of the characters' personalities, histories, relationships, and looks. i hear a lot of talk about this being a "re-invention" of the line....but i don't like this "re-invention" or direction of the franchise. much the same as i didn't like g.i.joe extreme, star brigade, and mega marines. but the line bounced back with valor vs. venom and the spy troops, back to the ARAH characters with an acceptable update. and then we had the love/hate relationship with S6 (which i tapped out of because $15 US was too much for one figure) but at least the characters were somewhat similar enough to ARAH to be recognizable, even if the cartoon was shite. i'm getting off on a tangent again....my whole point is, i'm viewing this whole "blue and grey camo" trend and the next blurb in the ARAH-verse until the line comes back around to what's worked. if it doesn't and this new vision is the future of g.i.joe, i'll go back to what i did before all of this movie madness and keep collecting vintage joes and making custom 25th style figures for my favorites that we never had the pleasure of seeing. much love to all the "h8ters" and "h8ter h8ters", i hope this next movie will be everything you love to gush about and everything you love to loathe. i won't be seeing it, just like i didn't see this last movie. i for one am tapping out of this whole movie argument for good. i'm tired of playing necromancer with a horse skeleton.

I intend to write to hasbro and make a complaint about the film, like I didnt like the suits and where the Joe base was, which was Egypt, WTF, is G.I.JOE a real egyptian Hero now, or a real American Hero?
this director has got too much sand in his head, and I hope they move the Joe base since Cobra knows where they are, and I hope they bring Sgt Slaughter in number 2, cause Sgt Stone was no Sgt. but a private if you ask me. I also think that Snake Eyes should have worn boots instead of shoes, and this movie looked like Men in Black to me, than G.I.JOE cause of there clothes and weapons. I can see G.I.JOE get remade in the future, just like the Batman saga did. the one who played Ripcord acted, sounded and looked more like Alphine to me than Ripcord, and the Baroness was already Destro's lover and not Dukes in the Comics and Cartoons, what's going on here? this is a re make of an old film I once saw. cant remember the title, but I first saw it in the 80's. |

What will Cobra Commander's mask look like in the sequel? Mirror mask perhaps?
