"if that's the case, then make a g.i. joe movie your self instead of complaing about it."
Crimson Guard Assault, Sure. Can do. I'll be expecting that $150 million budget check from you in the mail any day now. When I'm done with the film, you'll be f**king blown away. Thanks. |

Nice to know there'll be a sequel. Maybe that one will have the Cobra I wanted to see.

Why is everyone saying District 9, if opened same weekend, would have been competition for Joe?
Would it have taken some of the movie goes? Yes, but would it have taken enough? Probably not. Rated PG-13. Rated R. Which one is a parent going to take their kids to see? District 9 is not a mass market appeal movie, the "mouthbreathers" as someone so stupidly put it (and yes, using a term like that to make yourself seem more sophisticated with your movie taste, just makes you a big ol' asshat), may not feel it's worth spending money on. It looks real good, IMO, but not something I'd want to go and spend money on at a theater. But then I never went and saw either Transformers or Star Trek in the theater. I think District 9 will end up being a Children of Men kind of movie. Not that big a buzz/presence at the theater but a decent sized DVD buzz.

Not as sizable as you think. A friend of mine owns a small theater, and when they had Shrek 3 (three weeks after the opening weekend, mind you) the studio still took 75% of the gate. She said that the newer and bigger the movie the more the studio takes. I would be willing to bet that opening weekend something big like TF or Joe the theater gets 10% or less.

Glad to see ROC had a great opening weekend here and worldwide hopefully as one of the last major summer movies it has some staying power and recoup most of its budget, it was a truly "fun" movie a lot better than Transformers 2, and while I don't think it will be those numbers, I'd like to see the better movie at least be somewhat profitable.

Why would it only have two weekends to make its' money back? Most movies play for over a month around here. Especially given that it's the last official "big" release of the summer season.[quote\]
Movies, . . . if they suck, and this one as agreed by the audience that saw it this past weekend, what with some people actually walking out and all, last only a month if that in L.A.. Movies are kinda a big deal here and if it ain't makin money it gets shit canned quick. Of course it won't. But you don't have to turn as big a profit as either Transformers movie to get a sequel.[/QUOTE] No but it should make it's budget back sooner than later, and if I were a bettin man, I'm betting this movie will be out of theaters first week of september. |

Certainly nobody walked out of the full theater I was in, and there was a hearty round of applause at the end. Once again, anecdotal evidence proves to be no evidence at all. Especially since there's a whole wide world beyond LA where the movie plays, too. |

WTG ROC! This makes me proud for some reason. LOL. $56.2 million is A LOT better than what I was expecting. I can't believe Julia & Julia made 20 million though. LOL.
