I want to see the Alternate Version.
There must be an Alternate Version, because I see people in other threads raving about how "wonderful" it was and "How much they loved it". I now must question my own sanity, because either those people are stark-raving lunatics, or I am. Or there must be another version of this movie I haven't seen. I rank this piece of garbage LOWER than the Masters of the Universe movie.

Hugely disappointed. It was an abomination; for fans of ARAH, there was hardly anything here at all of interest. There are a slew of well established characters to choose from, and yet hardly anything of their background was utilized. Some parts, yes; like the Snake Eyes/Storm Shadow backstory was there, albeit loosely. And the way it was brought out was forced. It could have been done more subtlely. The Duke/Baroness backstory was heinous. Snake Eyes mask was ridiculously distracting. A lot of the acting was corny, as was the dialogue. I thought the movie might have a chance - until Dennis Quaid's hologram popped up in the first 10 minutes of the movie. It went downhill from there.
Some of the variations in the Joe story were interesting; I like the MARS/nanotech plotline - that's the sort of thing that you would have expected from the cartoon (although I didn't catch much of the cartoons as a kid; I stuck to the comics). I liked the performances from those that played Scarlett, Heavy Duty, Breaker, Storm Shadow and Destro. Some of the vehicles and weapons were decent. The overall storyline COULD have been utilized to make a decent film. But overall, it was a terrible, terrible movie (although nowhere near as bad as Watchmen). Which I expected, mainly due to Stephen Sommers being in the director's chair. I doubt he could direct a convincing Liberty Mutual life insurance commercial. I'm not mad. I'm just greatly disappointed. I hope there is no sequel made. This was one of the most painful things to see in a long time. My girlfriend also didn't like it; mostly because Shipwreck, Barbecue, Gung-Ho, Roadblock, Tomax and Xamot didn't appear in it. |

it's a terrible movie based on toys that i loved as a child and continue to love as an adult. i believe i have every right to complain, and i believe i have very viable reasons to for my complaints. i complain about how terrible movies are constantly made by hollywood. this one was a lot more personal than most of the other ones. hence, my being a member of the ol'hisstank community.

I have said it many times and will say it again.
This movie was just straight up Amateurish. I want to know who gave Stephen Sommers a job and why.

I had the opportunity to go see the movie on Friday (yesterday), I had come to the realization as I mention on one of my earlier comments on an alternate forum that this was a movie that was made as a marketing ploy to reach another generation of kids. I was right. From an objective point and not a G.I. Joe fan I will have to say this.
It was a good entertaining SCI-FI action film (it could have been marketed as a SCI-FI channel original movie) labeled the ultimate soldiers or The Rise of Terror, you pick. CGI was ok, story line about a weapons manufacturer playing both sides with new state of the art tech was ok, overall if I had never heard of G.I. Joe and had no clue as to who the characters were and I was a 7 year old boy that thought that the weapons were cool and the chicks were hot I would give it a good review. Not bad as a Sunday afternoon flick or a special episode of Mystery Science theater 3000. Now I AM a G.I. Joe fan, one that like must of you has been waiting for 25 years to see their Real American Heroes be paid homage on the silver screen. Unfortunately this was not it. There were some parts of the movie that even as a fan I could say I enjoyed, like seeing the USS Flagg… hmmm, maybe a little bit of the Snake-Eyes v. Storm Shadow scenes and the prologue with the patriarch of the McCullen Clan being branded, otherwise everything else was disappointing and not G.I. Joe. After several hours on the phone with my therapist, I realized that everything could have been fine if they would have stayed true to the background of the characters and not made an attempt to reinvent something that did not need reinventing. I think the amount grossed on opening night was mere luck and curiosity. Would this make me stop liking G.I. Joe, absolutely, NOT, would I get rid of my large collection and stop loving the brand, absolutely, NOT, we have seen in the past the misguided attempts to reinvent G.I. Joe such as: Sgt. Savage, G.I. Joe extreme and the cartoon episode that were produced after that Cobra-La incident (for the cartoon fans), let us not forget, G.I Joe European mission and the whole snake-eyes/ Scarlett comic run and the space thing; after Cobra Commander comes back from the grave (issue 99 or 100) for the comic fans. But they always come back to the tried and true. So the only thing that this movie has done for me is dislike Steven Sommers and ensure that anything else he does doesn’t get my monetary support. This is the best objective review I could give at this time, I think I need to call my therapist again... |

I have to say I really believe Sommers was almost fired or kept away from his own creation. When there is smoke there is fire. I'm starting to believe some of those rumors now. I feel bad for Larry Hama they let this man ruin his legendary characters.
It's kinda depressing. My question is what now? You can't really make a sequel can you? |

Nothing is ever as good as you imagine it will be.My first comment was only to establish that it is not meant to be a thinking mans movie..Hollywood ruins everything we as fans hold dear..Xmen is a good example..But hey look what they did with the Hulk first movie sucked ass.So they made a new one!

I was a Hater. I liked the movie. Not talking about the destruction of the character histories. I'm saying on the concept of an action movie that was worth watching... it wasn't so bad.
