I think he based the movie off the Sigma 6 cartoons. Giant underwater base. Many of the same prominant cast of characters, or the roles they played. The Suits?

The movie wasn't bad, I really enjoyed it.

Oh Im sorry yes when i bought my GI JOE figures thats the first thing I had them do... bang each other.
The movie was really bad. Lets just shoot every damn shot in the same green screen building and have CC and Destro take on Darth Vaders fate. Didn't we see this movie? Besides this movie was based on James bond, Star Wars and Future weapons. It's not GI JOE. They just lumped it all together and sold it on a stick. |

Yeah it is pretty obvious what line they took after since they feel the fans kept up with every single instance of Joe and felt the most recent looking image would be from Sigma 6. Sigma 6 had some cool looking things, I just never got into the size and scale, had they been 3 3/4 inch figures instead of 2.5 and 8inch anime figures, they might have gotten my attention. I picked up a Dragonhawk (original) the other day for $12.99 and it is freaking awesome vehicle, nothing from ROC even comes close to it as of yet!

Maybe some ppl arent as close minded as you. Maybe this was a live-action movie based on a comic book based on a cartoon based on a toy line. Maybe it was more geared for the kids (who are loving it btw) than it was towards the original fans. Maybe its unfortunate that youre banging on your keyboard sobbing uncontrollably while there are people out there who just enjoyed it as big stupid fun.

In writing scripts for movies, it's important to have some emotional angle for the audience to connect with. Granted, action certainly engages an audience's attention, but without that emotional connection, the audience (we) would quickly not care what happens no matter how spectacular or violent.
The world of G.I. Joe is set in the "not too distant future" and the hi-tech gadgets and kerazy over-the-top villains may serve to distance our connection to that world. The easiest way for us to become involved with the characters is for the writers and actors to form some recognizable relationships between the characters -- whether its through humour or some emotional backstory that motivates character action. One hopes in an action film that some emotional depth resonates -- think about Casino Royale or The Dark Knight. Whether such a movie is successful at doing so is another matter. The backstory in G.I. Joe is rendered so quickly that it becomes laughable -- especially in a case where Baroness flashes to the "good times" spent with Duke which essentially breaks the nanomite programming. It's not a very successful representation of what should be a struggle for her. Plus, it looks corny as hell! But love stories and action stories are not mutually exclusive. Once again, Casino Royale does a great job of balancing the two. G.I. Joe has all the whiz bang of a James Bond flick but ultimately falls short of any real emotional depth other than things that look cool when they blow up. It falls more in line with the Star Wars prequels in this regard. Anyway, despite the movie's flaws, I still enjoyed the hell out of it and loved the loud 'splosions.

I LOVED the movie, The four of us that went thought it was really sweet, so some of us disagree..there were things to fix, but really..do you know any movie that makes all of its fans happy, I think not.
