I'm a die-hard Transformers fan, and I was skeptical about the RoC movie. But, after seeing it, story, pacing, and in character screen time it is LIGHT YEARS ahead of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.
When I got in the theater I had many doubts as it was hardly filled compared to TF2. But, I was hooked from the beginning. Even my Mom (a diehard G.I.Joe fan from the OLD SCHOOL days) enjoyed it. It had some decent story changes and I loved how each character had some screen time (besides Covergirl). I do see quite a bit of potential with a sequel, I'd just like to see another big name star join the cast (besides Dennis Quaid). Gen. Hawk, was - by far - one of my favorite parts. He nailed who I feel Hawk should be to a T. He didn't overdo it, but added just enough attitude to the role. Snake Eyes. Poor Snake Eyes. The ONLY thing I'd want to change was his face mask. Other then that, he kicked MAJOR ASS! Man, Ray Park is the freakin' man! I also liked that while there was sexy female leads, they weren't overused or overexposed. Yes, I think Scarlet was the most attractive one of all. I wouldn't mind impaling Covergirl, not just the way she was in the movie. |

Yay! A thread for the pro-Roc team! I supported the movie since I heard it was being made. And, now that I've seen it, I love it even more! There were lots of great action scenes and a good mix of storytelling. I thought RoC gave a freshened look to GI Joe. With all the anti-RoC crowd, my fear is that this movie is going to somewhat draw a line between the Joe fans. With any luck, it won't.

Notice how people who don't like the movie attack the movie, where as people who liked the movie attack people who don't like the movie.

Oh, one thing I REALLY got a kick out of were the subtle hints at Sigma 6, including at the VERY end of the movie.

That was exactly what I said to my buddy when we were leaving the theatre. And I guess that's one big reason I really liked the film.

hehe. and I got what I expected out of gi joe. despite what some people say, there really aren't that many deep, wonderful movies out there based on toys. its a fact. up until tf2 [which I didn't see, but read about] it didn't occur to me that its very difficult to make a compelling, deep movie, especially in the system, and if the movie is genre based? not that genre movies aren't good, but fans of whatever childhood toy property seem to think that their deep love can be bottled and put in a movie, it can't. I'm a diehard superman fan, and as much I want the perfect new superman movie to be made [arnold vosloo is luthor!] its still about a fcuking white man alien who wears red shorts outside his clothes. I started thinking when I heard complaints about how the dark knight is unrealistic, that essentially you have to get rid of the suit and crime fighting altogether for the movie to be realistic. Christian bale stars as bruce wayne, a billionaire who's parents were murdered. he decides to set up a charity in their honour, and also works with disadvantaged teens to stop them becoming crims. the end. thats realistic. I guess what I mean is, sadly, the concept of a movie based around a silly premise like "silent ninja man in the army" can only be changed so much before you say "ok. you want real? a guy who doesn't talk isn't getting into a spec ops unit, if he somehow got in the army, he'd go to a psych and be let off. there fans, there is your realistic gi joe movie." at some point you have to accept that it can't be how you want it, unless you spend the next 20 years working your way up the ladder of success till you can make you're own version. anyway, I liked the movie, it was bombastic fun, jolting deaths that made me realise there is danger in this movie, and other than the obvious duke and cc and se and destro, anybody might wind up dead. the jokes were not sleazy. there were shout outs to the series like knowing is half the battle and lifelike hair. it had a predictable "ripcord wants to fly, ripcord gets to fly" story, that was like a comfortable pair of worn in shoes, you know whats going on... its a familiar story, but thats half the fun. this, unlike tf2 with the sweary horny farting testicle owning robots, is a good movie to take a 10 year old to, and explain to you son or daughter that you used to play with these as a child, or even that their grandparent's younger brothers used to have these fuzzy headed figures called gi joe, too. potentially the best father son bonding movie since indiana jones and the last crusade.
