I'm more of a Star Wars fan than Joe, and I think a lot here that "Just love it" are going to go through what us Star Wars fans went through.
With all 3 prequel movies, we thought they were just awesome, and saw them many times in theater, despite the fact that critics and a lot of the public thought they sucked. After the movies left the theater, and the hoopla died down... the reality set in: The movies just weren't good. In fact, Episode 2 was pretty terrible, and Episode 3 was rushed, and messy. The coming months will determine everyone's final opinion, not the "Glow" of having a Joe movie that's going on right now. |

The coming months will determine everyone's final opinion, not the "Glow" of having a Joe movie that's going on right now. Of course, I also think "fair weather fans" are mildly hypocritical. In my view, if you walked out of the movie theater smiling and feeling like you were entertained, then the movie was a success. PERIOD. It might have been awful, quality-wise and could have plot holes you could fly a Star Destroyer through, but in my personal opinion, if you enjoyed yourself while watching it...it succeeded at the fundamental goal of entertaining you. Sure, it's possible to change your mind or to get sick of a movie with repeat viewings, but I think a very large chunk of the folks that walk out of the theater saying "That was awesome!" and then 3-6 months later are trashing it on the internet are just hopping on the negativity bandwagon because it seems like the cool thing to do. For the Star Wars prequels, I liked 1 and 3 (particularly 3) and still do. I like the last 30 minutes or so of 2. Were they as good as the original trilogy? No, I don't feel they were. Were they perfect movies? Far from it. Were they the cinematic abortions that some people make them out to be? Not even close. Just about every "fandom" laden film suffers from the same fundamental problem: Whether the movies are technically and artistically "good" is irrelevant. In the minds of many (perhaps too much) of those entrenched fans, the films make the greater sin of not living up to the expectations provided by the "perfect film" that the individual fan has been building in their own imagination for years. Some get closer than others, certainly, but few, if any ever avoid the "few months later" backlash. Even Iron Man and Dark Knight have their bashers. Last edited by Jmacq1; 08-07-2009 at 11:58 PM.. |
