Thanks for the review CS. Your frame(s) of mind are the same I've went through myself. Although I'll have to add the Baroness ending to the list of known disappointments to expect, I still am hoping I enjoy it more than you did when I actually see it myself.

I don't think I "hated" the movie in it's entirety. I was actually really happy with the spirit and fun of it. My biggest problem and what made it sour for me was how badly some of the characters have been re-imagined. If I didn't have 27 years invested in GI Joe and I was seeing this through fresh eyes I wouldn't have cared and I would have enjoyed the cheesy big fun. I just really don't like how everyone had to be tied together in some Dickensian David Copperfield way. Not everyone's paths have to cross for a story to be good!

Did you read the Prequel book? Some of the flashback scenes were directly from it (the ending scenes), but it gives more substance to Duke/Ana/Rex. You should look into picking it up. |

I'll tell you right now, I enjoyed the movie. It was a lot of fun and unless you've never seen one trailer for this movie or not read one thing on the movie, you should know what you're getting into before seeing this movie. One guy threw his soda at the screen during the movie and walked out. What was he expecting, a talking parrot and PSAs?
I think it had a fine balance of action that both kids can enjoy and adults can "buy". There was plenty of death but little or no blood, which is the difference between PG13 and R. Storm Shadow was bad ass, I wanted more of Snake Eyes. I didn't mind the love story, but the end was blah. Now, my biggest gripe. What ITT Tech student did the CG for this film? I know Sommers is known for a certain look in his CG, but this was terrible. I thought I was watching a cartoon for part of the film. It looked like the military simulations from the 90s. When the Pit opened from the top, the underwater battle scene, the Joe jets...it all was TERRIBLE! |

If you could go back in time to 1985 & this movie came out you would LOVE it & you know it!!!!
Try to look at it as you were back in 1985, not how you are now. If you were a kid watching this movie you'd go apeshit over it. If you're an old fart then no, you're gonna be like Ebert trying to review Transformers:Revenge Of The Fallen. OLD FART!!! Bitter old man that forgot what fun is all about. |

I couldn't agree with this review more. It was also pretty much what I expected, since I grew up on the old ARAH cartoon (well, actually, I caught an episode here and there, but couldn't watch it regularly because of training in school). And the movie had that same "cheesy" feel to it, albeit a little more over the top and at the same time more "realistic" (they found some real life definitions for certain characteristics of the cartoon, like the lasers for one).
To be honest, I was, and still am, more hyped about the characters rather than the movie itself. I do hope they make a sequel, but just for the sake of having more new 4" figures to add to our playset (i.e. my son's and mine). I'm sure my son will love it though (he hasn't seen it yet, as he is in the Philippines with the missus and my daughter). He absolutely loved Transformers, which had a similar, somewhat shallow, storyline, and even more shallow performances. Not to take anything away from the producers, because I'm sure they hit their target market on the spot. You can't go in expecting a "Black Hawk Down" or "We Were Soldiers" kind of action flick. It's just not on the same level, and it wasn't made to be. So for those who haven't seen it, I'd suggest that you don't expect much going into the theater, and once inside, just enjoy it for what it is, and not what it was hyped to be. |

This movie is terrible. Worst movie of the year. There is not one scene in this film I would ever care to see again. Pure garbage and not enjoyable garbage. I was hoping it would be so bad that it was good, but it was in reality so bad that is was terrible. This is not just an embarrassment to G.I.Joe, but to movies in general.
