Anyone else afraid of the movie flopping? I don't know if it's me or paranoia but I keep replaying this scene in my head. 1. G.I.J.O.E is a major flop world round, not making back it's money 2. HASBRO is unable to sell all the toys it made for the movie because no one (including kids) liked the movie or it's toys for that matter 3. HASBRO with the lose of money from the toys goes bankrupt in the G.I. Joe department thus leading to G.I. Joe being no more.
Please tell me I'm being crazy. It's just that with all the bad press of the movie I'm afraid of this happening, then again I had the same fear with ROTF and I was wrong there. Anyone else this paranoid? |

Your being crazy. It will be a success, maybe not ROTF success, but I truly believe ROC will sell more toys that ROTF this year.

Judging by the many eyewitness accounts of kids liking the movie from posters here, it's gonna do well, and the toys will sell.

The Masters of the Universe movie pretty much killed that franchise by following the same formula the Joe movie has:
Change all the characters. Change most of the "look". Change the back story of the whole thing. Have a weak story and a bad director.

Worst case scenario for GIJOE is the movie fails miserably and the toys are clearanced out like Indiana Jones.
It means we will have a dry 12 months or so and, chances are, Hasbro will fall back on Resolute, though GIJOE will never have the retail presence again it had with the 25th/Modern line and the ROC stuff. It could, in theory, go back to an internet only product for a time. |

The only characters (not back stories/origins) that were significantly changed were Ripcord and Cobra Commander. As for the look, The Village People don't fight wars, soldiers do. The back story of CC, Duke and Baroness were changed to provide an interesting link and a reason for the audience to care. No harm in that. I thought the rediculous and over the top story was ripped straight from the cartoon. It fit in perfectly with the other rediculous, over the top original stories (pick one, any one).

worst case is online only, but I highly doubt it will flop. And I really doubt the toys will be as bad as the Indiana Jones line...

It was definitely cartoon based. The weaponry is just outrageous, what did they need nanomites for when they could just use their sonic weaponry to blow everything up. What was up with CC's mask? It's just ridiculous looking! I guess I get the life support aspects but why not have the face shield with an effect much like the baroness' sunglasses but go silver?
I guess the writers were given sigma six to draw from. I didn't mind the SE and SS connections, though SE had some moves for a lost kid in Japan! They didn't exactly say that SS killed the hard master either. I don't think he's dead. Cover girl had little time on screen before buying it, but maybe she survived. The pit was a little too much too. How'd they get all that water there in the middle of the desert? How'd the joes get a big super sub there as SS and the baroness were just arriving? Weren't they detained after the paris incident? There was just too much disbelief to suspend. If you ignore a lot, the pacing was very good and you're never really left with too much boring dialog in between the next action scene. The ripcord/scarlett thing was just awful to watch. I would have rather seen a triangle between duke and SE than that! Oh, and the lips! Vow of Silence! WTF! Why wear a mask if your face isn't screwed up? |
