It's a movie for us after all! Thanks Destro, you're the man! Can't wait it to see it on Friday, gotta gather my Flint attire!

But what about the movie's spirit? Should fans expect to see a live-action version of the cartoon, an update on the Marvel comics, or something else entirely? According to Goldner, Sommers and crew want to take filmgoers back a couple of decades: "Steve Sommers is very different. But he's perfect, because if you think about his movies like 'The Mummy,' it's the perfect action/adventure movie. If you think about what we're trying to do for G.I. Joe, really bringing back that '80s G.I. Joe from the Marvel comics -- those first 155 issues are really our focus. If you think about that, you'll understand what we're trying to get at with all those characters and all the intricate relationships. I don't think you'd see this movie as wacky. I think you're going to see this movie as being inspirational for younger kids and totally in the sweet spot for the guys who grew up on G.I. Joe." Or maybe his ideas for the movie were hijacked by the other idiot producer who knows nothing about the ARAH lore, Lorenzo DIBonaventura. Last edited by Goldface; 08-04-2009 at 06:52 AM.. |

For sure, there will be plenty of "sheep" that go to this thing with the thoughts of "having an open mind" only to come out knowing that they just contributed to Hollywood's standard of an even-double on their investment. Furthering yet another crap pile part 2 to rape them once again down the line.
If you have insecurities and low standards for what Hollywood feeds you, this movie is for you! If you have etiquette and standards for quality movies, avoid this movie like the plague! Boycott it and all the toys and products associated with it! Send a financial message to Hasbro that it's NOT ok to F*ck with our G.I. Joe!!! Yeah, they leave it wide open for a part 2, and just like Hiss Tank Destro said, they need to correct a LOT of stuff. He's hoping they do it right next time around, I say don't even give them the chance. Let this thing fall flat on it's face. Boycott it, save your money. Hasbro has invested so much money into making toys and merchandising for this thing, I seriously doubt that you will see any shortage of toys on the shelves. Let them feel the pinch by NOT buying anything with the ROC logo on it. If you really are curious to see the movie, but want to save the cash, just wait until Saturday morning, this movie will be all over the net just waiting for you. I'm sure glad I didn't pay to see it. Thanks for nothing Hasbro. It's fine to have a negative opinion of what you saw. It's fine to state that opinion. Then turning around and trying to "bait" people is about as low-class as it gets. PS: "Your" G.I. Joe, might not be "our" G.I. Joe. You sure as hell don't speak for everyone here. Everybody is going to have a different take on how they feel about the film. This is Goldners opinion, that's what he walked away with. I don't see a stright up lie in anything you just quoted.
Don't take anybodys word for it go see it yourself.

I was highly disappointed with the movie. The Doctor a.k.a. Cobra Commander is a HUGE failure in this movie. Sure, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is a good actor, more notably in Miracle at St. Anna. But he has the unfortunate luck of having to destroy all of your childhood dreams of how Cobra Commander should be in less than 5 minutes of the movie. Pure garbage. A truly unfortunate circumstance in a otherwise promising career of a young actor. I can see him looking back on this film in 10 years from now as one of his biggest mistakes.
I'll agree with Destro (Hiss Tank Destro) on this one, Sienna Miller is easily one of the best looking Baroness choices for the roll. But the lack of Eastern European accent really bugged the crap out of me. She looks like Baroness, moves and and behaves like Baroness, but isn't the real Baroness in my opinion. The only person that could have trumped Sienna in the looks and acting department would have to be Monica Bellucci. That would have sealed the deal right there. Unfortunate that this movie was near perfect for the roll of Baroness. They should have added the accent. Felt like I got robbed somehow. As for Destro/ James McCullen / Christopher Eccleston... absolutely the worst rendition of Destro possible. I hated his acting. He did nothing for me. I found myself falling a sleep to his lines. Arrogant & Boring. Zartan in the movie sucks. Horrible choice for the roll. Dr. Mindbender in the movie sucks. Although, that actor's forehead is pretty massive! Haha! Storm Shadow in the movie... well just isn't the bad ass you wish he would be. Lame & way too polished. Like a trendy scenster kid all grown up and addicted to fashion more than function. I hate that little flip of hair comb over. Stupid. That's just my review of the Cobra side of things. My review of the G.I. Joe side of things is even worse. Marlon Wayans a.k.a. Ripcord single-handedly ruins this movie! Worst choice possible! Stephen Sommers should be fined for putting him in the film! The constant one liners of "comic relief" make me puke! I mean really seriously make me ill. Horrible, utter garbage! Bad choice Stephen! Bad, bad choice. As for the rest of the Joe team, including Snake Eyes, their acting performances are just forgettable when you have as much over the top CG present in a movie like this. They are just drowned out by motion graphics and action. With the exception of Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Heavy Duty, he can do no wrong as an actor, and yes he gets to lay down some serious damage with that cannon! Easily one of the better small points of the movie. But still his performance seems short and his lines even shorter. I think he has the true acting ability to be really, really great in his future rolls. Let this movie be but just a small speed bump in and otherwise long and successful career for Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje. Now to the CG! That's the only thing this film has going for it's self. The graphics are beyond bad ass! But this film seriously lacks substance. Even our beloved Sunbow animations had way more substance than ROC. With that said, save your money folks! I'm doing you a favor giving you the inside info about this polished turd of a movie. You'll thank me when you don't feel the wallet raping that this film is sure to do to you. I would hate to see the amount of negative feedback coming from those of you who fall into the hype and come out of this movie knowing they have just been brain-washed by a massive media marketing campaign. Viper Patrol, Did you SEE the movie or is this what you think the movie will be like? You said you didn't pay so it makes me think you just read the comic or the book.

God I'm a gluton for punishment aren't I?
DESTRO liked the film. VIPER PATROL continued to hate the film - He hated it going in, he hated it coming out. Consistency at least (presuming he saw it - I mean, he 'didn't pay' at a charity screening), but he then pre-empts anyone who likes it by arrogantly labelling those with an open mind "sheep" while demostrating one of the most startlingly closed minds I've ever had the misfortune to encounter on the internet. Sad that an upbeat look at the film degenerated so quickly into farce. HISS TANK sucks right now... And I seriously believe that continual out of context use of the word "rape" should be a banning offence, on any forum. But, no matter: Two opposing views on the film, but I tend to believe the one the didn't sound like it was written by a 10-year old borderline hysteric. Maybe all is good in the world after all...

I'm still curious as to why he hasn't filed that false advertising lawsuit against Hasbro and Paramount yet, since clearly it's an open-and-shut case that should net him millions, to hear him speak of it. |

Thanks for the review. I'm much more excited to see the movie now that I've finished the novel...

Not to mention that Viper Patrol's post has absolutely no unique mention of any movie-specific elements that haven't already been said by others elsewhere at this point. That's the most vague "review" I've seen in quite some time. I enjoyed Destro's review. I am not nearly as dyed-in-the-wool a Joe fan as most here, so I probably have a more open mind than many. If this is action-packed and not overly cheesy, I'm sure I'll enjoy it. |
