I really think I'm gonna like this movie a lot. Thanks for the reviews. I really don't mind any of the changes. I like quite a few of them. My perspective on Joe is different than some other people's. I'm not a child of the 80's. I grew up on a different GI Joe than a lot of you. I read the comics and watched the original cartoon, yet It doesn't have the feel as what I grew up with. This is why ROC seems so awesome to me. It's different but still cool. It's GI Joe so any little changes or differences there are from the comics, cartoon, and figures from the 80's is really expected to fit with the modern GI Joe.
The movie is a reinvention which a lot of folks stuck in their own mindset fails to understand. It still has the characters, cool vehicles, and crazy plot that we'd all expect. A lot of complaints and gripes people has is a straw man argument because many don't want to: listen, accept, or believe that it's a reinvention. The target is a new generation of kids. As much as we'd all like to think that kids now like what you grew up on, most don't. A lot of plot and characters wouldn't appeal to the mass market of 2009. The proof is the only thing that kept the 25th line going is mainly collectors. That is not the goal of a toy company. Sure the sales were through the roof than what GI Joe sales had been but that's because a whole bunch of nostalgia lovers made it that way, while the children's appeal was limited. I've talked to kids who never heard of ARAH, like Sigma Six, and still love GI Joe. Sometimes whatever fond memories from your childhood aren't going to be the fond memories of another kids childhood. With an origin story such as this, there needs to be characters, plot twists and changes, explosions, cool new looks, and all other elements that appeal to kids today. Sadly enough I know a kid who says that Skids and Mudflap from TF2ROTF are his favorite characters. They certainly weren't mine and definitely not favorites of many hardcore fans. However, despite that it targets the kids appeal. That's what this movie is doing. It works for a film. I really like this storm shadow and it's my favorite rendition of him, same goes for Destro. My interests are different than other on the board. Simply due to what I grew up with and my memories. That in no way makes me less of a fan. I still have the knowledge of everything else Joe. It's just what I prefer. The fans who bitch about every little thing in this movie should can it and let the present generation have those fond memories that you had without F*%*ing it up for them. They don't care if Storm Shadow is clean, they don't care if Snake eyes' mask has lips, and honestly I don't think they're aware the originals didn't. Hasbro is a business. GI Joe has always been a commercial to sell toys. So why have all this pointless debate? Everyone needs to grow up sometimes. If you know you're going to hate the movie than don't see it. Your mind is made up. Those who want to see it, I'd strongly advise it. I'm know I'm seeing it at least 3 times in theaters. That's my experience that I grow up with and hold on to.

This is very good to hear. (I did not read it all...just the last paragraph) I like to know that the kids will love it. It's all about the kids on this one.

I didn't need a review from either side. I still look at the movie the same as I did a few months ago. Transformers was not exactly "True" to the old school style and neither is G.I. Joe. It is quite simply all we are going to get for now. If the tv spots are any indication, then It will be o.k. at best. I will see it simply because it has G.I. Joe in the title and my son wants to see it. I don't think I will come out saying that it was the best thing since sliced bread, or claiming rape. It will simply be fun to see my son exited to buy the toys right after the credits roll. He did the same thing after Transformers. It is cool to see this and I will simply enjoy the fact that my son will be enjoying it. It is just a movie based on a toy folks. Lets not all freak out. Just have fun like we always do with this hobby.

I appreciate the reviews. It looks as if this is going to be about how far you can separate yourself as a hardcore fan and the adaptation and treatment of the characters. I think by now, many of us are used to seeing differences from film adaptations and comic/animated versions.
But I definitely look forward to the film. I for one never expect a complete translation to the G.I. Joe that many of us grew up with but as long as there are enough things that keep the G.I. Joe "soul" in place in the film, I'll be happy. Thanks for the different reviews.
