Some of the best GI Joe comics revolve around 6 or 7 core Joes, like they're a tiny super-duper elite unite, and then it grows from there.
Even that "Renegades" cartoon formed like that. I think it's a perfect way to develop out a new (or re-newed) movie franchise... |

I wanna see the GI Joe reboot movie with just the very core OG first wave lot of GI Joe characters, the sequels can be for more, damn, would love to see that!

As for most of the rest of the "-isms" listed here, I don't associate these with the 80s and 90s the way that I do with the 2020s. It's worse now, not better. We have an institutionalized system of power and hate which has taken over in the last 15 years. GiJoe used to be made up of fighting men who fought in Vietnam AGAINST this authoritarian, totalitarian mindset. Now this mindset writes the movie script.

J James, you left out my most important point*:

Which was the beauty of my original idea. There is, literally, something for everyone. And no one should consider this to be a surrender (of their patriotic values/core beliefs), but as a necessary compromise. Because an unironic, entirely sincere, "nationalistic" military movie is never getting greenlit in this current climate. * Other than the part where I proved definitively that "Full Metal Jacket" was a better movie than "The Rise of Cobra".

I'm sure Paramount would love to see GI Joe continue on the big screen as a franchise. Sorry random YouTuber misinterpreting interviews, the big screen future hinges on the success of Snake Eyes. Nothing has been announced or hints of movement on that front, though you'd have to think the producers and creative team have an idea of what would come next given the year+ COVID delay.

People all over the globe who are resisting authoritarianism and protesting for freedom are using the American flag now, instead of their own national flags. It has been happening for a long time but everywhere that the oppressed minority stands up against the tyranny, they fly the American flag. We had a year of it in Hong Kong, in France with the yellow jackets, right now in Cuba. This is definitely the time for Hasbro to ditch the corporate overlord viewpoint and embrace the full emotional and humanitarian strength of the GiJoe brand.
GiJoe is awesome and subjugating a GiJoe film to ditch the inherent strength of it's own roots to please anti-human regimes in other parts of the world is wrong for the brand and for humanity. That's actually probably why they've erased Stalker I just realized - so that China will allow an unedited film.

Ya now what....I always thought that a concept of the comics GI Joe 155 1/2 and GI Joe 156 would make a dope ass movie. Sort of turn the tables and reverse the roles. Thought it was fitting and timely for the political environment of this country too. I think it could have worked had they done it back then (10 years ago) but you cant do that type of thing now. Unfortunately.
