Let me expand a bit. Alot of collectors wanted Footloose, Law and order, etc in the classic packaging and correct outfits, but instead they give us both those figures in ROC packaging and different gear, which I see as a compromise,(not in a negative way) by giving us the figures we wanted and staying true to the nature of the beast that is ROC, and from where I'm standing, she is a beautiful creature. I still want the classic colors, but I'll be getting that five pack for a desert dio I wanna set up.

Did Hasbro state this Fact?
quote: TNI: Inevitably, the focus is going to shift from the movie line. When that time comes, what should we expect in the spotlight; the as-of-now unreleased Resolute figures and possibly more figures based on the animated short or the "classic" 25th line? Question by reader die fighting X. Hasbro: The focus will remain on the movie universe, even after the movie has passed. At JoeCon this year, we plan on revealing the focus for the 2010 line so we can't reveal too much right now. Is this the answer? Focus on movie universe ROC = NOT on 25th ARAH. Quote:
So lets get this straight and do the math.
Focus is ROC and classic characters re-imagined in the ROC line. So, 1 line = ROC. This 1 line has the classic characters, which adheres to the ROC universe/storyline/origin. So therefore, if there is 1 line with its own universe/storyline/origin the older one has be replaced. Quote:
Grand Slam happens to be the figure pictured and is in his original 13 uniform, but the ROC logo is not. he has been absorbed into this line. If they had another original 13 figure I would have used he as an example too.
Quote:
Yes, as all companies should do, but the new fans that come out of this ROC film will have no care for the old ARAH origin only the new ROC one. Therefore they will not be the same as the older other fans.
What's funny is that you automatically assume that older fans don't appreciate the new line. This new line is bringing me, an "old school collector": Battle Stations Snow Cat SNAKE Armor Rage The Panel just confirmed that we're getting a Resolute Pack, in accurate colors. So how exactly is it that Hasbro isn't concerned with the "Older Fan"? |

I prefer to see it as more of a willingness and ability to understand that these toys aren't made for me personally and that the company will do what the company needs to in order to expand it's business and brands.
Also see it as an ability to understand that my Joe's time is done and it's time for a new generation to be able to have their own story and not have to latch onto the same story I had as a kid. That may very well be the case, but as a adults with or w/o kids, we still spend money on these toys, and where I come from, every dollar counts. I accept the change, and I'm happy that Hasbro is doing everything in there power to make sure my kids will be able buy joes as they are now, and if they do so as adults. My son is four years old and he loves G.I.Joe. His first figure was a VvsV Cobra Commander. I even take time with him to go over a character a week with him. Last week was Storm Shadow, this week is Duke.

No fans were left hanging. The Resolute thing, maybe it was because they hadn't finalized any plans yet.

This same argument has been discussed over and over and over again. When opinions fuel a conversation, you are bound to keep hitting the brick wall. No one is raping our childhoods. No one is collecting every copy of Marvel's GI Joe, every 82' Hasbro Gi Joe action figure/play set and incinerating them like Nazi Germany. I think that on a forum it is very difficult to separate one's feeling for a particular subject. What you ultimately get is a lot of anger, frustration and, sometimes, ridiculous comments. Is the Rise of Cobra line the same as the RAH line? No. Are they limiting our ability to collect 25th style versions of our favorite characters? To a point. Are the ROC figures god-awful? Actually, they are some of the best figures, compared to the 25th line and the originals. Are they our classic figures re-imagined? You bet. Star Wars fans say that Lucas raped their childhoods, but fail to realize that the originals still exist. You can still enjoy them. By remaking, redoing, remastering..you open the world of these toys to a brand new audience. Keeping the toy lines going strong. Who knows, we may get 30th Ann. versions of RAH. IMO the V Vs. V, Sigma 6 lines were horrible. But did that totally erase my memories of playing with my straight-arms back in the day? Not at all. Did it kill GI Joe as we know it? No.
On a side-note, as a 35 year old adult myself, I would ashamed to cry rape when my action figure line is disrespected. I would be embarrassed if the live-action movie was identical to the GI Joe cartoon. The cartoon was great when I was like 10...but it is almost laughable by today's standards. Does my son watch the older episodes...yes he does. Do I watch along? You bet! This new film/new toy line is being made for the masses, not a niche audience on message boards. Once again, my opinion...not fact. |
