RoC was nothing so much as a Sunbow miniseries done in live action. It hits virtually every plot beat that the MASS Device and Pyramid of Darkness hits.
For all the shit that the Accelerator Suits get, at the time the movie was made it was a heightened version of the same kind of stuff DARPA had been talking about for years. From that perspective it was not so far off the mark from what ARAH was at its' inception: A military force that was "five to fifteen minutes into the future" as far as most of their technology. It's not a "military" line it's a "military fantasy" line. Basically, you can argue about the execution of everything all day and all night (and not be wrong, there's plenty to criticize there), but the basic concepts of a lot of it were sound and very in keeping with GI Joe as a whole. It can't be stuck in the 80's forever, and it can't be strictly realistic military (anymore). Semi-realistic? Sure, but from even before ARAH onward GI Joe has had a lot of sci-fi underpinnings. So no, accelerator suits themselves don't bother me. I don't particularly think they were used well, but the concept is fine, and no more out of place than a JUMP pack, SNAKE Armor, and laser rifles were in the early 80's. |

You're responding to criticism over them which came from me, but you don't even address what the complaint actually was. Instead, you've created your own argument with yourself and posted it here. And for what, to show you can counter yourself? You're literally responding to your own complaints that you invented and then conclude that they hold no merit. WTF? You may be one of the most delusional, reading challenged people I've ever encountered on the internet. You're not discussing, countering or even arguing in good faith. You're having some kind of bizarre thought diarrhea entirely by and with yourself. It's pretty hilarious. Also, SNAKE armor is Cobra, not Joe. Trying to get a leg up on Joe through wacky, often unstable and barely tested tech is a Cobra thing for the most part. Last edited by lantern48; 12-16-2019 at 12:48 PM.. |

You're comparing a super suit to lasers, which was just a type of ammunition that was shot from guns in the cartoon? It's not about the suits being future tech/sci-fi. I explained pretty clearly what the issue was.
Also, SNAKE armor is Cobra, not Joe. Trying to get a leg up on Joe through wacky, often unstable and barely tested tech is a Cobra thing for the most part. Now before you go all “hypocrite! You said you like accelerator suits! How dare you say you don’t like lasers!”, I will make this final disclaimer: I enjoyed RoC as an action flick, not as a Joe canon movie. I liked the accelerator suits as part of a summer action movie, not as part of GI Joe. |

I honestly hate the lasers in the cartoon and am not a fan of Snake Armor. GI Joe can have some degree of futuristic weaponry but those two I just don’t like.
Now before you go all “hypocrite! You said you like accelerator suits! How dare you say you do t like lasers!”, I will make this final disclaimer: I enjoyed RoC as a fun action flick, not as a Joe canon movie. I liked the accelerator suits as part of a summer action movie, not as part of GI Joe. Lasers were used as ammunition because they couldn't use bullets in a children's cartoon. Not to mention lasers were very popular at the time with Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, etc. The super suit is a creative choice, not a necessity due to restrictions like laser blasts were. As far as SNAKE armor and Cobra's thing for wacky sci-fi weapons and vehicles, it's part of ARAH, whether any of us like it or not. Hasbro went too far with things sometimes, but overall I'm good with and like the idea of Cobra coming up with crazy shit like B.A.T.S. to try to gain an advantage on the Joes. Lasers and super suits aren't the same thing. You just quoted me questioning why the other guy made the comparison, so why would you think I would connect those things and call you a hypocrite?

On a different RoC topic, Snake Eyes had lips on his mask because the 1985 Snake Eyes with Timber figure does. Yup, go check it for yourself. The most iconic and loved SE figure has the awful lip design that is so (rightfully) hated! |

I thought the Accelerator suits were a nod to the SIGMA 6 time period..there were cheesy jokes about the 12" kung fu grip and such. I was not a fan of trying to put all of Joe in one basket and combine it. I would much rather it was ARAH based with more real world realism...but they didn't ask me. I was not a fan of some of the actors selected for roles or the "relationships" they had...but it did get us a lot of toys - and honestly - Joes has always been about the toys. I read the comics and watched the cartoons - but I LOVED the toys.

I actually had forgot the toy was like that and people reminded me about it when I complained about how stupid it looked in the movie. I still say it looks terrible in a live action movie regardless of whether it's toy accurate or not.

O But what if the accelerator suits looked like the Armor Tech armor from Star Brigade? Wouldn't that negate Lorenzo di bonaventure's failure's?
