I think it's the nameless killing that allows it to be aired on TV, and SW is at a late night time slot as well. So it's not a weekly "after school" kind of show.
But all the clones that are showed dying are nameless. For whatever reason, they must think that allows kids to view it and "not go postal" (lol). Even in that one episode where there was a traitor clone, he didn't get killed, he was just captured. |

But on a more serious note, TRU down in my area has sold out of the 'better' figures. Deep Six, Breaker, Ripcord, Zartan, and a few Destros pegwarming. Target is selling a bit slower, but it looks like they are moving. What I've seen: (Note these are just observations and listening to passing convos in the toy aisle) Saw a family the other day (I think) picking up ROC product for their son. They walked away with a figure or 2. Dad may have been collector as he was studying them more intently than the son. Saw an two older guys (one with his grandson I think) talking about how the new Joes were out. Grandson picked up a Bakugan. Damn. Target employee came up to me and asked about the figures and what they were. I told him about the movie and he said he thought the trailers were cool. Knowledge of the line by people who aren't into Joes is definitely hopeful. Based on 3 random occurrences/observations and previous discussion here on the tank, I'd like to think there is hope for the line, thus far.

One of the things that DOES bother me is that today IS the 10th and that is the offical street date release. But walking into a store is STILL a hit or miss that the figures are out.
I don't understand why they don't have the same consistent hype that TF did as they might have been available a few days earlier but EVERYONE (to my knowledge) had them out by the official street date with big posters, promos and other ways to lure the kids in. |

are you seriously afraid of disappointment? that doesn't seem very healthy. do you also avoid talking to girls because they may reject you, trying new food because you may not like it, or only watch reruns on tv of shows you already have seen to keep from avoiding the possibility of enduring a show you don't like. it's the same thing. life must be very boring with that fear.

At most, RoC will last about a year. Maybe a year and a half. Hasbro will probably want to re-brand prior to the next Holiday season. Rebranding is an important part of Hasbro's retail strategy for boys' toys/action figures. That's the reason we get different Star Wars packages every year. Now, "re branding" doesn't mean we'll necessarily stop getting movie-oriented figures, but it'll probably shift to an overall "G.I. Joe" brand as opposed to "Rise of Cobra" specific. Then a year or two later it'll switch to whatever the sequel is going to be, then back to a "unified" line, etc.... It's Hasbro's typical pattern for ongoing lines with mass media tie-ins. |
