Could not agree with you more...I guess it's just Human Nature to take something simple and make it unnecessarily Complex. *Sigh*

I'm partial to my origin for COBRA Commander:
In the very late 1970's, the CIA has 2 agents, Cobra and Snake Eyes, form a fictional terrorist organization. Its purpose: To create trouble around the world and give the United States an excuse to intervene to further its interests. The catch: Cobra blows up Snake Eyes (who survives, this is how he gets scarred) and creates the organization for real. He proclaims himself the savior of humanity and his goal is the total destruction of all world governments and the establishment of a one world nation under himself. After his defection, the CIA learns the background information they had on the man codenamed Cobra was all falsified, and no one really knows who he is or where he came from. COBRA Commander is able to blackmail high-ranking members of the American government who protect and succor his organization as to reveal he is their Frankenstein's monster would destroy their careers and social status. Only Snake Eyes and Hawk know the truth about COBRA's origin. This information is concealed from the other Joes. Snake Eyes is charged with finding and killing COBRA Commander by any means necessary. In my Joe-Verse, in a one-to-one fight, COBRA Commander is, in his own style, as deadly and efficient as Snake Eyes. He is more like the way Hama initially portrays Serpentor: Personally courageous, not afraid to stand at the front lines and lead his troops into battle, and will risk his own life to rescue the very least of his soldiers, which is significantly different from all other interpretations of the character. His loyalty to his subjects is also matched by his ruthlessness against enemies. In my Joe-Verse, COBRA Commander is actually a great leader who genuinely believes what he is doing is right and that it is his destiny to accomplish his goals. He believes the human race has gotten too big and a lot of people are worthless and need to die: One of the principle points of COBRA is that you have to prove yourself, you don't get any "rights" just for existing, you have to be productive. He imagines a utopian society where all the worthless people have been exterminated and only the ones who meet his criteria for useful people are left to populate the Earth. |

The used car salesman origin would have taken way to long to set up. The movie origin makes alot of sense, in the context of the movie. Looking at the pieces, yeah, it does look odd, but when it's put all together it's actually pretty good.
As for the KKK thing, people get all worked up over the images. Doesn't matter if it's shown on a bad person or not, they just see the imagery. So to make it easier, and becuase we live in a PC country, they took it away. Wouldn't have done to have protestors at the movies. I read the novelization and the origin works. I like it alot more now that I've seen it. The motivation is all there and the new CC is one scary son of a bitch, more so then ever before. The depths this guy can go to in the name of his "science"... the Joes better watch out, this is one dangerous mofo.

as a blackish person i like to think that maybe they didn't use the hooded look because it didn't translate well on film, rather then the whole kkk thing; i never picked up on that. one of my favorite cc looks is with the hood. it's kinda like the twins from transformers how a bunch of people cried racist. i think people need to relax it's not like the twins were wearing black face or cc was walking around with a flaming t

25 years and I NEVER thought "Klan" when I saw C.C.s hood...and I doubt many people AT ALL would, nowadays...
and the comic origin couldve been set up in flashbacks or hell NOT EVEN REVEILED AT ALL. hmmm suspense WOULD be nice once in a while...older movies didnt HAVE to give the origins of EVERY character... (by the way the comic origin is by far my favorite;same when it comes to S.S. and Snake Eyes...)

Interesting thoughts. I am a fan of the hooded CC myself.

o think it wouldve been really cool if it were the hooded Commander, and they somehow couldve not publicized who was playing him...so when he had the hood off, NO ONE ,in the movie OR watching the movie, would know its really the commander. keep it a secret...
