Millennial- stare at cell all day, while not being able to function in outside world (see the Great Indoors for more examples)

Is it me or are there a lot of similar catch phrases for the movie reboot that line up with the catch phrases from this article?
Aubrey Sitterson On Rebuilding 'GI Joe' After 'Revolution' So Hasbro may be taking their next movie as far into their own universe as Marvel has their own: Where movie, TV series and comic books are all in alignment/harmony with a few embellishments. My concerns are that Sitterson and Davis are trying to appeal to an audience that won't be interested in G I Joe. I will reserve judgement until we get more information, but I suspect the end result will be one extreme or the other: It will be (surprisingly) awesome....or really, really suck. Either way, we may get our "head snap". “The world has changed, and I think you’re going to see G.I. Joe changing with it,” said Davis. “There’s going to be a much more contemporary approach to the whole franchise, and that will allow us to develop different characters. We hope to create a head snap. It’s a different kind of [G.I.] Joe — one that still resonates with Joe fans but brings in an uninitiated audience and expands the audience internationally and domestically.” The question you have to ask yourself, punk is: "Is the glass half empty or half full?" (Yes, an engineer will tell you the glass is twice the size that it needed to be) Last edited by IC3 VIP3R; 04-04-2017 at 02:55 PM.. |

Its difficult to put one's very partial feelings about the GI Joe franchise into a cohesive pro/con argument for the pair of films we've seen over the last 10 years.
For me the difficult part I have isn't campy acting or dedication to explosions and/or landmark destruction but rather there's no real humanity to them. We have soldiers, supposed brothers and sisters in arms, killed in action and there's just nothing about those soldiers that has impact nor anything in the reaction of those around them that shows impact. Whether its an action movie, a horror movie, a comedy, or a chick flick - relationships and interactions tend to be what makes a movie work. Connections. What made GI Joe work even when just utterly silly was that you had human interactions between these over the top characters. In ROC we have The Doc and Duke - they're somewhere for some reason but do we get to know why? Not really. Is there any discernible rationale for what's being developed given and how given the resources required? Nah. Just stuff happening. Where did these Cobra guys come from? We gonna' approach that? Nah. We have a potential real strong sexual harassment case in Ripcord but we soften that a bit. We have a token character killed but do we have any depth there? Nah. Keep washing and rinsing that over and over again. We have these characters but they have absolutely no depth and their relationships are, at best, selfishly shallow. There's no band of brothers just amazingly coincidental personal issues with little to no actual relationships underpinning their actions. There's so much meat left on the bone that goes unserved and while there are some really well done action pieces - it comes across as continuously lacking in meaning not just to the overall picture but even to the focal point key characters. I'm not expecting some opus on character depth but please... give us a little shred to care about why these people are doing what they're doing. |

Don't get me wrong. I like the idea of spending more time on the characters. That is required. In Star Wars - sure, we care about the Rebellion vs. the Empire (in whatever version they represent in each movie), but it is the characters that involve us in the illusion of that universe and inspire the toys. Hasbro has to work from the other direction.
I grew up with the 12" G I Joes and when I heard (back in the 80's) that Hasbro was re-releasing G I Joe in 3.5" figures with molded/painted on clothes - I thought "WTF?". But it was a good transition to inspire a new generation of kids. Hasbro needs to do this reboot for a new generation of kids. I just hope they know what they are doing.
