Well, all the haters will be pleased with this announcement:
Upon Marlon's fall out of the vehicle in the new trailer, I've officially decided to buy a ticket for a different movie when I see ROC. Probably Harry Potter if that's still in theaters. If I like it, then I'll see it again and buy a ticket for it. But I can't see myself parting with my hard-earned $ to watch Marlon Wayans's antics in a movie that is not a sequel to "Don't Be A Menace To South Central While Drinking Your Juice In The Hood." Whoever is editing the trailers for this film needs to be assigned to a different position. Trailers are supposed to make you want to SEE a film, not avoid it. As a Joe fan, it looks weak. As a casual moviegoer, it probably looks even worse. |

Yeah the humor and the flipping around in suits kills it for me.
Supposedly thats like a tiny part of the movie.. but they sure as hell promote it.

I still keep thinking every time I see a trailer that it reminds me of Masters Of The Universe.

Every piece of Joe media, be it a cartoon, or comics, or CGI tie in has one purpose: To grow the GI Joe brand and promote the sales of the toys. The toys are the only things that Hasbro makes in house. Habro makes money off the liscencing fees for all the tie in merchandise, and the liscence fee is directly related to the perceived strength of the brand. The movie, if it does well, will grow the brand in ways the comic never could. |

This is not being argued. I've read the comic since... ohh... '88 or so. The fact that the comic was very good (which it usually was) did nothing to change the fact that Larry Hama was being payed to write a comic about a toy franchise. That he would take it in interesting directions and try and inject some realism despite what Hasbo asked of him is a credit to his talent. While Hama's interpretation of the Joe-verse is usually considered the definitive one, (by me, especially) he was still writing a comic book for Hasbro.

Yeah, this doesnt even look like a good generic action movie.
I'm still trying to hold out hope that it'll be entertaining after a few beers, but even thats fading fast.

And you touched on the major point of my issue and why the "fresh look" argument is bullsh*t: You can make a movie devoted to a new group of people and try to give it a fresh look. You can make a movie devoted to the old group and not necessarily give people a reason to go see the movie. Or you can just make a good military movie that people would see anyways, and blend the old storyline into it. Only one of those 3 options is likely to please both groups. Mathius |

The movie, if it does well, will grow the brand in ways the comic never could. Yeah, maybe you're right and the comic, the movie, and the cartoon were only made to support the toy. But don't you get it, that one of the reasons the toys sold so well is the comic was so awesome and the cartoon was so entertaining? Look at kids toys today.. when I was growing up if they came out with a new action figure, you could almost guarantee there was gonna be a cartoon to follow. Toy commercials littered children's programming. Nowadays? Toys are being thrown out there with a lot less commercials (sometimes none) and you're basically 50/50 or less on whether or not you get a cartoon. Most of the commercials seen during children's programming are food commercials for the latest junk food that kids run to their mother's in the grocery store saying "I WANT THIS!" which is just contributing to the rise in childhood obesidy in america. Action figures have made up a very small part of the toy section in recent years. You have your WWE figures and transformers have rebooted about 5X, but for a long time there was nothing but pokemon and other weird japanese crap. Because kids don't want to buy Joes when they don't know anything about them. Putting out a good live action movie does nothing but positives for the toys, and when the parents can be involved too? If you put out a live action movie that rocks the theatres, who is dad more likely to buy the kid? The GI Joe toy based on the rock'n movie he just saw based on the toys HE grew up with or some weird pokemon crap he doesn't know anything about? Some spoiled brats on the forum might argue the kid will get what he wants, but in my experience I didn't always get what I wanted as a kid. Maybe eventually, but more often than not I got something that I wanted, but only if it was inexpensive and it was something my parents approved of. Mathius |

I felt that resolute did not represent GI joe well, it reminded me of really bad anime, & I can't say that the movie is going to be great until I see it.
I also read the IDW comics and I feel like those were rushed it's an abomination of what was once a great series. All in all like punk rock, gi joe is dead. |

Ahh my favorite thread is back...yes the Marlane blunders are funny so funny it will give more people a reason not see this banter of a movie.
Its pathetic....falling out of a van in a super accelerator suit to make a funny...let me say that is the epitomy of retardedness. I think Year One is going to better then ROC since it appears it is more and more a satire and mockery of GI JOE than anything else. Apparenlty Hasbro intends on killing GI JOE for good and asked parmount "to do thier worst" to ensure they put a nail in the coffin. I really hate what they have done...the entire future of GI JOE is doomed to this garbage take on the brand. The Hasbro CEO seemed like a decent guy for bringing back the 25th anniversary to drive some like back into the original GI JOE brand they knocked out of the box oh so long ago. They did a fine job of that...ROC not so much...Resolute too was such an awsome representation of a rebooted GI JOE to date...funny how people think it was only for adults, when it its TV rating was 14+. Don't think they are trying to sell toys with that line? Then why did they bother making the resolute 5 pack and the few single carded resolute figures they had? Oh wait that must have been a mistake... ROC ruined Resolute and got in the way as well as the 25th modern line destroying the concept forever. Thanks appreicate that guys...did a fine job of fucking that one up let me tell you what. Enjoy Rise of Robojoes...I wont be and I will be angry and bitter and bitchey all I want and there is nothing you can do about it! LOL
