I'm a completest so its a done deal...although, I will fight the urge to buy the shitty ones. Crap is crap no matter what.
I also don't wanna support something I don't feel. If this line does well, I don't want them (Hasbro) to think I'm down with there B.S. figures there giving me instead of the 25th joints that got me buying G.I.Joes again. I collected a few during the V-vs-V junk, mostly on impulse, and not with the gusto I collect now. I'll support it to an extent, but being a man of many interest, I will not buy what I don't like. Plus its summer. I rather spend my money on going to the movies and gear. I like to stay freshly dipped.

I mainly need two of the Pitt for a massive G.I.Joe headquarters project I'm working on. They'll be combined with two 1983 headquarters, one 1992 headquarters, two Generals, one Defiant Launch Complex, one Sigma 6 R.O.C.C., and one Mobile Command Center. Plus some playsets from other toy lines and a few construction materials.

I plan on picking some of the figures and vehicles up. I bought everything the 25th and Modern Era line had to offer, but with the movie stuff, why buy it if it will never be played with or displayed...? I would love to be able to buy everything Hasbro had to offer to try to guarantee the future of the line, but with times the way they are i will have to pick and choose when it comes to the movie stuff...

I will NOT buy any of the movie line CRAP. Only the classic and resolute infused stuff. Also, none of the classic abominations like the Ferret, the so call night raven, ice saber, nada.
If the line fails, it's Hasbro's fault for dumping crap out in stores. Repainted VvV stuff? That just reeks of laziness. If Hasbro says the line is for kids, then let them have it. My money has another place to go. I'm not going to get all butt hurt because one Joe from the 80's didn't get made. I am happy with what I got so far and with what they have coming out, but the movie line? screw that tripe. Hasbro really should be ashamed here. I saw that video review of the Night Raven, and all I can say is that Hasbro really should be ashamed of themselves. This is pathetic. For the past 2-3 years, collectors have been the driving force behind the success of GI Joe. This childish stuff is really a slap in the face, and I honestly think that it is WRONG to force us to buy this stuff with the "Just shut up and buy it all" speeches. If Hasbro wants to dump a bunch of trash on the world, then I ain't buying it. None of it!!!!!! This latest cheap move by Hasbro is yet another reminder that History does in fact repeat itself. Case in point: Remember the Transformers line of 1983-1985? That was the golden age because the robots were intricately detailed and actually resembled real vehicles and aircraft. Fast forward to the movie, where Hasbro cheapened everything by essentially dumping the "Duplo" style robots on us. Wreck-Gar, Sharkticon and Rodimus Prime being key examples of just how recklessly cheap the company became with that line. A company should NEVER dumb down their products, and yet Hasbro is doing that anyway. The Crimson colored F-117 is a joke. The Night Raven is a joke. Hasbro cannot seriously expect intelligent, competent adults to buy this stuff. Yes, it's geared toward the kids. Let them have at it. If they reject it too, then all this stuff will end up on clearance and Hasbro will learn once again to NOT piss off the collectors. Why? Because we collectors drive their sales with regard to the GI Joe 25th style line-up. Shame on you, Hasbro!!!!!!! |

Ahh, the brilliant short-sightedness of the adult collector.
Sure, collectors drove the 25th style line up. But that's not enough. G.I. Joe is still not an A-List brand in the mind of retailers and the general public and never will be again if they cling mercilessly to the coattails of Hama-era Joe. The "classic" remakes are a finite resource. What happens once they finish making all the Joes from '82 to '87? A whole bunch of collectors stop buying because they don't care for the "neon crap" of '88 onward (with the possible exception of a single figure here and there). What happens once they've made every RAH figure from '82 to '94, to include all the Eco-Warriors, Ninja Force, Star Brigade, Battle Corps, etc...? Just like the late 80's/early 90's, the market will shrink with each passing assortment. Sure there are a few completists out there that'll buy it all, but they're the exception, not the rule. So Hasbro can either let G.I. Joe die a slow death just to keep "adult collectors" happy, or they can make *gasp* toys for children (which is their entire goal as a corporation) and at least make the attempt to extend the life of the line and the brand (which is just plain good business). Does anyone genuinely believe that we'd never see classic product again if the movie succeeds? I'm not talking about people that'll argue that must be the case just to be contrary and to uphold their ideals of self-righteous hatred towards the RoC product. I'm talking about anyone that can look at how Hasbro does business with all their major boys' toy lines, and then sit here and honestly claim there's no way Hasbro will ever make "classic" product again. It's bulls**t. Hasbro brings back classic product every time there's a "lull" in their lines. G.I. Joe will be no different. Just like Star Wars and Transformers. In movie-years you get movie-stuff for kids, and in "off years" you get more collector-oriented offerings. They -need- something like RoC so they can "space out" the desireable classic figures that remain and keep collectors hooked for longer than one more year (which at the rate they were going with the 25th line, one or two more years would have filled out all but the uber-completists' "wish lists"). Now, none of this should be taken as a decree to go out and buy stuff you don't like. There's plenty from the movie line that I'll be skipping. But acting like it's some grave injustice to collectors that Hasbro is even making the attempt to modernize and expand the G.I. Joe brand by marketing to children is ludicrous, childish, and petty. meh. it's probably been said already in this thread by someone, but my thoughts are: i'll buy figures that are part of the movie line that meet the following criteria: a) they look good, b) aren't repeats of already released characters, and c) are based on original ARAH characters. thusfar, that makes a total of about 2 movie-line figures that i may buy. there is also a possibility that i will purchase new, original character figures if they look really good and fit in with the 'classic' characters. i'm not just going to buy for the sake of buying. if that means that less figures (good and bad) will be released in the future, so be it. in summation: i'm not wasting my money on stuff i don't want now in order to possibly increase the likelihood of having the priviledge of spending money on stuff i may or may not want in the future.
